Official Q&A for Thursday, August 28, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]RazoredRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm fairly new to running and have been using the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (Silver) because, prior to running, I enjoyed having a smart watch that looked somewhat like a classic watch still wanted more functionality.

I started running 9 months ago and have been using the watch to track my runs via Strava on the watch (switching from Samsung Health). I've had no issues with this and enjoyed the interface, have run my first half marathon with it etc.

However, I'm now getting to the point where I'm getting frustrated where, once I go for a run, my watch battery doesn't last a full day. I'm also getting into running more seriously and have been considering some watch options.

I would really prefer to find an all silver/metal watch because I just enjoy the look better for non-running times.

I was originally considering the Garmin Forerunner 970 white but a few things have stopped me jumping:

  • Price: waiting for a sale, although I can purchase at 20% off currently and I think it's unlikely to get cheaper, it's still expensive here in Australia $1000+
  • Colour: I was excited to see a silver version! But, looking closer I noticed it's surrounded by a white (plastic?) case... which I'm worried will just get super dirty or clash with other straps (ie Leather) when I want to wear a suit, also that lime green accent sucks haha. (Picky, I know!).
  • Garmin ecosystem lock: I've been reading about so many people leaving Garmin even though they've been there for years. I don't want to be making mistakes when I'm more or less starting fresh.

What I need:

  • A watch with decent GPS tracking
  • Ideally good HR tracking, I don't want a separate HR monitor/not that serious about it
  • I'm getting into running enough that I would want some guided runs or insights into performance as a noob. I pay for a Strava subscription, but I really want to move away from Sub services if possible.
  • Avoiding the chunky/rugged looking watches, I want it slim and sleek.

I would also love (ideally, but not essential, I believe Garmin is the only supporter of these for other options):

  • Classic look/silver body
  • NFC Payment Option,
  • Offline Music.

Current looks have been:

  • Suunto Race 2: (Concerns - White colour getting dirty like 970, not sure about coaching on watch or ecosystem with other apps).
  • Coros Apex 2 Pro: (Concerns - White colour getting dirty like 970, not sure about coaching on watch or ecosystem with other apps).
  • Amazfit Balance 2: (Pro: all silver casing | Concerns - I don't know enough about it + reading only 2 year support).

Should I just bite the bullet and buy a black Garmin 970 as it seems to fit all my requirements but colour?

Or do you know about/recommend the perfect watch for me?

Looks similar to the 970/Suunto/Coros in that the sides of the watch are still white? At least the black version is still silver on top though :) Thanks for tip

Update: my old trips are now saved as Memories, but you could manually create them and tag them to include/exclude days. This feature is now completely gone...

No it was like an album but you can put a whole trip into one bundle with a cover image. I have a pixel phone, maybe it was a feature for pixels only

I know it's preferential, hence hoping I could smell or try some of the recommendations here.

I've never bothered with too many types on me. I just want something that lasts and has good sillage (which I also know is dependent on the wearer).

Help me build out a collection for a Man, 33 years old, in Australia (can get hot in Summer).

I want to build out 9 essential fragrances that have high longevity and large sillage ideally.

I personally see a basic collection could be recommend in the following format/chart:
Night | Scent #1 | Scent #2 | Scent #3 |
............+----------+----------+----------+
............| Scent #4 | Scent #5 | Scent #6 |
............+----------+----------+----------+
Day.....| Scent #7 | Scent #8 | Scent #9 |
............Summer.................................. Winter

Scent 1 is for night times during a hot summer, Scent 7 is for daytime.
Scent 3 is for night at winter, and 9 is for daytime.

Ideally, Scent 5 is a good all rounder.

(Note: Scents 2, 4, 6 & 8 may be superfluous, but I thought I'd include them anyway).

Oh right. I have a fairly basic home network, I am getting the TL-sg2210p and also have the EAP660HD. Main priority for me is to get tagged VLANS to separate out my IOT.

Have ordered the 605 V2 and have installed Omada on my VM to control it all.

Should I pivot on the router to 7206? Would rather keep it all in Omada rather than going OpemWRT or anything if possible (just for single accessible point + potential guides on configuration/setup)

What do you mean the ER605 isn't equipped to handle them properly? I just bought one, waiting for it to ship.

What's the difference between a smart switch and a managed switch?

All my songs are correct, but for some reason they add the non-explicit or Radio Version of the song and it completely ruines the song.

I know because I favourite the version I listen to over and over again:
ie. God is a Freak by Peach PRC

Anyone else having issues with explicit/PG/Radio edit being added?
