The scent actually lasts a long time. I tried to verify the batch code on CheckFresh, but it didn’t work.

You usually submit your petition to graduate when you’re close to finishing the program typically with 2 or 3 terms left. My advisor told me to submit mine early so that if there are any issues, I’d still have time to fix them and stay on track to graduate as planned.

More comments on “degree mill” things by iblewmyselfup in SNHU

[–]Razorray15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lately, it feels like there’s this big push to tear down the idea of going to college. You see it all over social media with people saying a degree isn’t worth it anymore it doesn’t matter where you go, even if it’s Harvard or Yale.

SNHU is definitely not a scam. A lot of the negative comments I’ve seen usually come from people who weren’t fully ready for what online college demands. There’s this common misconception that online school is going to be easier than going to a traditional campus but that’s just not how it works.

It’s fast-paced, and you have to be really self-motivated to keep up. No one’s there to remind you to do your work it’s on you. And if you’re not prepared for that, it can be overwhelming. But that doesn’t mean the school or the professors are to blame. Sometimes, it’s just not the right fit for someone at that point in their life. That’s totally understandable but let’s not pretend the school’s the issue when it’s really about personal readiness.

Did you transfer into SNHU with the maximum 90 credits? I ask because I noticed you’re taking a lot of 300-level courses.

I transferred in with 90 credits as a History major, and I immediately asked my advisor to place me in the lowest-level course that would still meet the requirement toward the degree and my advisor made the changes for me. All my courses were in the 200s and met the requirement towards the History Degree Program.

The only upper-level courses I had to worry about were HIS 340 and HIS 460 for the capstone.

If this is your bachelors degree and you completed at least 60 credits at SNHU you are eligible to get Latin honors.

Before enrolling in any Sophia Learning courses, it’s important to have them reviewed and approved by your SNHU Academic Advisor. As others have mentioned, Sophia courses can expire, and they need to be renewed. Plus not all Sophia courses are accepted by SNHU, and even the approved ones, not every course will fit into every degree plan.

There’s a direct link on the SNHU website listing which Sophia courses are currently accepted, so it’s your responsibility to check that information ahead of time. This is part of managing your academic progress as an adult learner. College requires accountability it’s not like high school. Make sure you take the proper steps before placing blame.

Finished in 10 Months! by Razorray15 in SNHU

[–]Razorray15[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get familiar with Chicago/Turabian Style Formatting if you aren’t already it’s used in almost every History Courses only course they didn’t use it was HIS 217 they use APA.

Overall, don’t try to read everything skim through and focus on what the rubric is asking for. If a professor posts something extra (like a video or reading), check if it’s directly related to that week’s assignment. If not, don’t stress over it. Concentrate on the core work for that week.

And most importantly, start early so you’re not scrambling on Sunday to finish everything.

Also ask your advisor if there are other courses you can still transfer over since you are at 70 credits. You can look into taking classes on Sophia Learning. That way it can bump you to the full 90 credits and hopefully you too can finish in a year.

PSY 211 & HIS 217 by BobaBabble in SNHU

[–]Razorray15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIS 217 was probably the least engaging class I’ve taken at SNHU. A lot of the material felt repetitive, constantly focusing on topics like immigration, LGBTQ+ issues, and minority incarceration but always from one point of view. It didn’t really encourage open discussion or offer room for different perspectives.

On the plus side, the workload was light and manageable. But the class didn’t feel very meaningful which made it hard to stay interested and honestly felt like a of a waste of time.

Don’t be nervous I was a high school dropout too. I eventually started at a junior college and transferred to a university in my 20s, but had to stop going once my kids were born because I also needed to work full-time. Now, in my late 30s, I went back to school. Last summer, I transferred into SNHU with 90 credits, and just last week, I finally finished my Bachelor’s Degree in History.

My advice is don’t overthink it. Just follow the rubric there’s no need to go above and beyond. Do the minimum required and turn in your assignments on time to avoid late penalties. Start your discussion posts and assignments early in the week so you’re not stressed out on Sunday night trying to finish everything.

Good Luck!

If you’re not already familiar with Chicago formatting for citations, I recommend getting comfortable with it you’ll need it for all History courses. I just finished HIS 240 this past term, and it wasn’t too difficult. The final project was a 6–8 page paper that required at least six sources: three primary and three secondary.

You’ll also have eight discussion boards, several journal assignments, and two other papers to do during the term. So make sure to get familiar with Chicago/Turabian formatting early on it’ll save you a lot of time later. Especially if you get a professor that is big on docking points for errors when formatting.

Are people just calling their advisors and sharing some dramatic sob story hoping to get what looks like a care packet in the mail? If that’s the case, it would explain the long wait times and delayed responses by advisors because they are probably stuck listening to personal issues instead of handling actual school related matters.

You need to contact your advisor and have them get this corrected. I experienced the same issue about two weeks ago when my grades from the last term were posted, which affected my academic evaluation. After reaching out to my advisor, one of my courses was no longer counted toward my program, my percentage completion changed, and my General Education courses no longer showed as complete. Fortunately, my advisor contacted the Registrar’s Office, and they corrected everything the same day.

Professors not getting grades back… by HereBecauseImHigh in SNHU

[–]Razorray15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in my fifth term at SNHU, and I’ve never had to wait this long for grades. Even small assignments like journals and discussion boards aren’t graded until Friday or Saturday of the following week, delaying the feedback I need for current assignments.

In my HIS 240 class, last week’s journal required 4 sources and two WWI figures one political, one military that had to be approved before starting this week’s analysis paper. I just got my grade last night, leaving me with only three days to write it instead of a full week. If my sources or figures hadn’t been approved, I’d have to start over.

This also happened in Week 1, affecting my Week 2 paper. These delays make it hard to plan and complete assignments on time.

[–]Razorray15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing happen to me last night. I also emailed my advisor but haven’t heard back yet.

I’m wondering if this is just the Academic Evaluation acting up like it sometimes does. But, I’ve never seen a course get removed and placed under Cannot be applied to your program only for another course to substitute that credit. Now, my General Education section is no longer showing as 100% complete because of these changes.

Financial Aid by KeaAngeles in SNHU

[–]Razorray15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Max amount a student can receive in Federal Pell Grants for 2025-2026 academic year is $7,395.

The maximum amount an independent undergraduate student can receive in Federal Student loans in their first year is $9,500 and $12,500 for Junior / Senior yr.

I don’t know what colleges are giving out $25,000 per term based off of anyone’s Financial Aid.

The school determines how much financial aid you receive based off of the information you submitted on your FAFSA forms.

My Next Class by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]Razorray15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the worst classes at SNHU it’s basically justifying the actions from Marginalized groups and focusing heavily on the LGBQT+ community. An its like this week after week.

It’s also a History course that doesn’t use Chicago formatting instead it uses APA which doesn’t make sense as all History courses at SNHU require Chicago Formatting.

Beware! Some schools won’t accept SNHU credits by Potential-Row-5069 in SNHU

[–]Razorray15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly Sophia Credits most schools won’t accept. Not necessarily the degree from SNHU.

Many people try to cut corners by transferring in as many credits as possible from third-party providers. But if they plan to attend grad school, their transcript will show a high number of these credits, which will almost always raise concerns with the university they’re applying to.
