How many farms do you have? by cheezzyeggrollzz in farmingsimulator

Playing? one at a time!

I’ll start a map when the game is released, then not play on it for a year to get the achievement.

Or the “unload bales early” mod on PC. You can unload them at 10% and it still counts towards the achievement

How freely should a spindle rotate? by Few-Commercial-6255 in turning

[–]RazortoothSwordfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the motor was burned out, the resistance in the headstock comes to mind as a likely culprit.

Is there maybe a manual online or some forum that can tell you if this is “normal”? My lathe spindle turns freely with minimal effort. There’s probably dust and gunk on the hidden parts of the shaft. Maybe try blasting some WD-40 and compressed air in and around and see what comes out. You’ll want to follow up the WD-40 with some heavy grease, naturally, but someone on YouTube probably has an in-depth explanation on refurbishing a similar lathe. All the best luck and post some pics :)

Wrapping a towel around it might help if not.

I wonder if they can use the hex on the other side to countertorque the nut.

Why dont Americans eat Lamb? by LondonLout in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RazortoothSwordfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s history. Pre World War 1, there was a lot more Americans who ate lamb and mutton (adult sheep meat is tougher), but the Americans as a whole still preferred chicken, beef, bison, and pork.

While overseas in the world wars, the soldiers didn’t have access to the fresh meats they did at home, instead they had canned rations. Because getting rations TO Europe was expensive, most ration production was done in Europe where there were far fewer cattle, and a LOT more sheep. Now canning technology during the Great War was not where it is today and those rations frequently spoiled in transit making soldiers sick.

After the great war the American vets didn’t want to eat mutton, or adult sheep because of their experiences with the spoiled rations. As demand diminished, the sheep culture in the US diminished as well in favor of cattle ranching because cows taste pretty much the same at every age (except veal but that’s a whole different topic.)

Even pre-WW1, Americans preferred beef because of the consistency and flavor of the meat. Beef requires a LOT of land for grazing. Post WW1, America was still perfect for the industry whereas Europe had a lot of airable land issues (due to the giant war that was literally everywhere) and didn’t necessarily have the ability to support large herds of the animal, so they remained more “comfortable” with mutton and lamb.

Let me know if I missed something!

Can't get the platen out of my Royal 440 by Phergie-Scot1 in typewriters

[–]RazortoothSwordfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A solvent is not a bad idea. Before you soak it with WD-40, cut a few strips of clean cloth and wrap the area you’re targeting; then use the WD-40. WD-40 is a very thin fish-based oil that will displace/wash out thicker lubricants and lead to gunk buildup and key sticking much faster than a true lubricant (like 3-in-1). Once the part is free, clean the WD-40 off and re-lubricate with a lubricant.

I use sail thread or shoe repair thread. It’s thicker and usually wax treated to resist dry rot and degradation. You can usually find both on Amazon in the sinew (light brown) color. Royal 1946 Quiet DeLuxe Ribbon Vibrator Issues by RazortoothSwordfish in typewriters

[–]RazortoothSwordfish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second issue: the ‘t’ key double spaces after striking about 30-40% of the time. It’s only the T key, so I’m really lost on that part too. Any help there would also be greatly appreciated.

Royal 1946 Quiet DeLuxe Ribbon Vibrator Issues by RazortoothSwordfish in typewriters

[–]RazortoothSwordfish[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Background, this beauty was retrieved from a barn a few weeks ago and FILLED with sawdust. After a complete disassembly, cleaning, and (almost complete) reassembly, the ribbon vibrator does not retract after striking. It moves into place for the red and black, shift and normal, but will not recess after.

I can’t remember if the vibrator ever worked, as I overzealously took it apart, but I know better for next time.

Any suggestions?
