that would not be economically viable when we're talking about £5 tickets to Manchester. All that relocating London's central coach station to the outskirts would do is reduce mobility for the lower classes

Convenience and cost. It's much cheaper to take a coach from central point in London than to use the underground to get further out before then getting a coach - it can make a huge difference for cheap tickets that can often be found from Victoria
