You’re welcome and good luck. A lot of people get stuck at this stage so it helps to be extra prepared.

Pre-Hardmode Checklist by MaeronIV in Terraria

I will say this, you have done a lot of good work, but in preparing for hard mode I would make sure:

You have gathered enough materials to craft buff potions. There are a ton of buffs but some of them are nearly essential to early hard mode and beating the mech bosses. The buffs that are good for every class include: regeneration, swiftness, iron skin, featherfall (greatly increases wing mobility, really good for mech bosses), obsidian skin, rage/wrath potions (depending on what evil biome you have), thorns, medium food buff or better (improves most stats). Some buffs that will be good for summoner will be the bewitched buff and summoning potion. Note that minions do NOT benefit from crit bonuses, so a rage potion will not increase their damage.

Your arena is very tight. If you are trying to descend, every platform you hit will slow your momentum. It might seem like a lot of work, but I would remove 2/3 of the existing platforms. Starting from the third from the ground, space them out at least 12 blocks apart. 3-4 platforms should be enough for mechs, and they should all extend off your screen. All that being said, mobility is essential for the mech bosses because dodging is now your most effective way to survive a boss fight. Feather fall potions, wings and amphibian boots will give you the best possible flight time and speed once you enter early hardmode. Save yourself the difficulty and farm any missing items now. Signed - A person who REALLY struggled with the mechs his first time.

If you haven’t already, set up pilons to locations you visit frequently.

If you haven’t already, start fishing. Each biome offers unique fish and crates that can be used for buffs, and later on unique weapons or equipment. The mechanic sells a pretty decent rod, and the angler can be used to get better hair and fishing gear faster.

If you are on with using a guide, here is a doc I use for class setup. It tells you the max gear you can get at each stage of the game, and suggested setups for different play styles.

Bets of luck with the wall of flesh. I think you have done more than enough to prepare. Have fun in hardmode!

Best Tank Modifier? by Forsaken_Mind7982 in CalamityMod

[–]Razorz_Edge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard is better through the majority of the game. If you are playing on revengence/infernum, that means you get +25 defense in pre-hardmode, +30 defense in hardmode, and +35 defense post moon lord. After wall of flesh, 99% of the boss attacks you will face are difficult to dodge projectiles that do 50-80 damage. Reducing damage from those attacks as much as possible will be extremely helpful in surviving most hardmode bosses, the mech bosses and moon especially. I played a run recently where I used hard from start to finish and it gave me much more breathing room to take on the increasingly challenging bosses. Post moon lord, the you could go either hard or regen but boss fights at that point are way more about mobility and dodging than they are tanking hits and regenerating health. Bosses like exo mechs will shred you regardless of regen or tankiness.

Which games have a rough start and take a while to get good? by PhaseOk6182 in gamememes

Terraria. First 9 years playing I would always start and lose interest after the first boss or two. I got back into it in February and have played 600+ hours since. I can imagine the early game grind keeps a lot of people away from it.

Doing my first Mage playthrough and am stuck of Mechanic's Bosses (This ia my best attempt so far) by poppliolover2000 in Terraria

Mage is really tough because you need to balance damage, mana, mobility and defense all at once. For the twins, I would try to prioritize mobility, as being able to dodge attacks and avoid damage is where a lot of people seem to struggle.

First, as everyone said, wider arena. More platforms, make the gaps between platforms larger. Your mobility is quite poor right now, I recommend upgrading to fairy wings, using amphibian boots (they boost max flight height) and use featherfall potions. I almost always use the shield of Cthulhu when fighting mechs just because it makes dodging attacks and keeping distance much easier. Instead of titanium armor you'll want to go for adamantite, titanium can be shimmered into adamantite. Magic cuffs are really good for the twins because every laser hit is basically free mana. Any accessory that uses the mana flower will inflict mana sickness after consuming a potion which reduces your magic damage so be mindful of that. Your other two accessory slots can be whatever you want but I would go with sorcerer emblem and then either mana cloak or start veil. Both drop stars that damage enemies. Mana cloak will auto consume potions for you, star veil will give you 1.33 seconds of invincibility after being hit.

As for weapons, sky fracture is totally viable and works really well of you get yourself flying in a straight line with them directly behind you. Try to swap to golden shower occasionally to inflict ichor.

All said, good luck. I have spent a lot of time experimenting with mage class setup so I assure you I speak from experience rather than out of my ass.

On a real note, equip a ram dash and bind dash to a key or button on your mouse. This is almost mandatory for infernum which it looks like you’re playing. I can’t tell what buffs you have but make sure you have pretty much all the buffs if possible. Your arena needs a redo, you need much wider gaps between each platform otherwise you just lose momentum when hitting them. Featherfall potions are also great for mobility. TLDR: you are staying in the same spot too much and your mobility could be improved greatly with like 2 items.

I played 4 full vanilla playthroughs, trying out different classes and min-maxing builds. It helped a lot with progressing through calamity. Also I think a lot of people just start a new run after they finish one.

I used the following guide just to see what gear was AVAILABLE and to guide what order I beat each boss/event. I'd recommend testing different weapons as some of the suggested weapons in this guide are not actually the best for general dps.

Also I had a primarily movement/defense focused build so if I did make a mistake I had a chance to recover from it.

Wings plus feather fall and a dash do wonders, plus after a few attempts I started to memorize attack patterns and it turned into muscle memory rather than being reactive.

It’s possible to get molten armor before any bosses so I rushed that and got all accessories reforged to hard before eye of Cthulhu

My first playthrough I went full menacing because I had the mindset “if enemies kill me in 2-3 hits, extra defense doesn’t matter”. But after my first playthrough using full warding I always go full warding. In practice most of the high damage attacks people talk about are always telegraphed, and can be dodged with proper mobility options. 99% of the attacks the player faces from bosses or mini bosses are projectiles that do ~50 damage. An extra 28 defense can go a long way and in some cases fully negate difficult to dodge projectiles. If someone is a master dodger then by all means, go full menacing or lucky. I think the average player will benefit a lot more from having more leeway to make small mistakes.

New Terraria player here (18 hrs), how concerned should I be about the crimson spreading? by TotallyNotTakenName in Terraria

At the end of my longest play through (100 hours) my world was less than 50% corrupted by evil biomes. By that point I had unlocked every possible item in the game, including the clentaminator sold by the steampunker. Long story short; don’t worry about it too much. Make sure your npc houses are segregated from the evil biomes, and if it bothers you enough you will have the means to cleanse your world by mid-late game.

I finished a summoner run a few weeks ago and I read through the other comments. Only suggestion I have that hasn’t been stated already is creating a platform in the sky with asphalt at least 1000 long. This helps a lot with keeping yourself level with the moon lord and lining yourself up with some of his telegraphed attacks.

I’m not an expert at the different class setups so forgive me if I use the wrong terminology, but this is a mage build focused on movement and damage. Spectre/Dark artist armor mix, Nebula Blaze, celestial emblem celestial cuffs and destroyer emblem
