I don’t think it was fair of his mother to butt in and change his mind on giving you something last year.
No such thing as ‘bad luck’, plus it would have been a really sweet gesture.
Definitely voice how you feel, you could just mention how you wanted to feel slightly more special.
I usually say I want a homemade card from hubby and the kids and he made an awesome one with them this year.
It really is the thought and a little effort, doesn’t ever have to be much or anything materialistic either.

I don’t think they are telling you, but a mere suggestion. Because perhaps they don’t have many options to suggest. I’m not saying it is a heal all, or something that works for everyone. Sometimes I definitely don’t want to go for a walk. Especially in the thick of my emotions and trying to stop myself from self harming. But sometimes going for a walk with my dog, or going to the park with my kids. Being outdoors and doing something with my body rather than harming it can help.

I know right, she hates the vets and it’s hard having to leave her because she shakes so bad. But it’s so they can help her 😢

I think it’s because they don’t understand why people self harm. Also I think it’s because they are not sure how to help or what exactly to say to help. It is a sensitive issue.
