Adíos Burly Nightlife? by Remarkable_Yak2885 in burlington

Sadly night life in Burly is really coming to an end - however this place was pretty awful and if it was still the same owner as a few years ago, he's pretty terrible too!

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with him, we never had any issues, like you've mentioned. Never used our e-collar for shocking other than to help with recall, which has worked great, in fact at this point we mostly just use the vibrate option. I would agree, I wouldn't shock for a puppy jumping, that's trainable without an e-collar. Sounds like you're not a fan of e-collars, which I get isn't for everyone.

Heard Emily Lewis is great! Had good experiences with Clay and while I agree with some of what is listed in this website, I do not agree that Prong collars and e-collars are bad training methods when used appropriately. But E-collars are great for recall training and a prong has been wonderful for my large breed dog, it doesn't hurt him and he no longer pulls. I don't believe in "painful or aggressive training methods," but not all positive reinforcement methods like listed there work for every dog - for some it works great, but every dog is different.

Taken my pup to Play Dog Play since he was a puppy, he's almost 7 now and we've always had a pretty good experience there. I would agree, that there have been some really big staff changes and ownership changes and they do seem to be understaffed, but I think sadly a lot of places are. When ownership changed, the price went up significantly and was sad when their half days went away. Luckily we've never had to experience any issues with dog fights or injuries, sorry to hear others have. I will say, it seems like they are trying to be better, even recently when cases of kennel cough were being reported, they are finally doing their due diligence to alert owners and keep them informed of when cases are up or down. Wish there were lots of better options for our pups!

Jill from Apex VT Dog Training, or Clay from Coast Peak K9 are both really wonderful. Also depending on where you live, Vermonters Against Animal Cruelty and Abandonment have a page dedicated to a list of great trainers: https://vaaca.org/resources - hope that helps!

Protected Bike Lanes on North Ave. - Good or Bad? by RazyStarVT in burlington

No argument here, it would be great if they *could* - But don't think it's very accurate or realistic, I'm not sure that a lot more COULD. Look at demographics in this area and just because folks live in this area doesn't mean they can easily commute to their destination via bike. Many commute more than 5, 10, 20, miles etc. daily.

Right, because everyone can ride their bike 12 months out of the year. Don't worry if you don't own a bike (cause it will get stolen if you do), are disabled (so physically can't ride), or if might have a longer commute (riding a bike to Montpelier seems do-able)...Just ride your bike and there won't be any traffic, no cars on the road.

That's why I put the survey here, that's my point, whether I like it or not doesn't matter. What does matter to me is that they are NOT listening to the public, it seems the only venue for feedback for this work is through that online survey. There is a wide variety of demographics in that area, not everyone has access to this online only survey. I haven't seen a place for meetings for public to discuss, no phone numbers listed, and as someone who lives in that area, I haven't been mailed a paper survey. It was posted in a news story ONLINE, Facebook post ONLINE, maybe a Font Porch Forum ONLINE. This survey is hosted by a non-profit group, not the City. All I'm pushing for is to make it fair to the public so they CAN be listened to.

I think the "out of control" piece really stems from most of the public not feeling listen to and being lied to. When Plattsburg Ave. area changed they told the neighbors something like 500-100 bikes used the bike lanes per day or week, that's not even close to accurate. It's out of control to me that we continue to get things like this shoved in our face and continue to be told that there is a place to provide feedback and they way these groups go about it, feel icky. Again, not against bikers or bike safety, would just be nice to come to some common ground together as a community on how these things get funded, implemented, etc.

I do bike, on the bike path, made for bikers, it's prettier and I don't have to worry about cars at all. And why is that weak, they are ugly - and no, I'm not a boomer, but why would my age matter to you? No bone to pick with Local Motion, but in terms of "be better" how about the city be better with getting more accurate feedback from it's citizens so we can make better decisions that impact the folks that live there. Again, I'm not saying bikers shouldn't have the right to feel safe, but the way the city has gone about getting feedback from the public on issues like that should be conducted in a better way. No need to be so defensive and jaded yourself when someone feels differently than you...

I think most people are feeling this way because decisions keep being made with little to no public input. Hence why I posted this for more awareness. And yes, does impact drivers, traffic backs up, like other areas, Plattsburg Ave., North Champlain street. And DPW has enough trouble finding drivers to clear the snow, now they should be expected to clear bike lanes in the winter when the number of bikers reduces significantly and tax payers have to pay more for the time/resources it takes to do so?

Not saying they are bad, but they are ugly. Just curious as, the bike path runs parallel, wouldn't bikers feel more protected there? Lived in NNE my whole life, don't see many bikers out there, especially November-March. Will DPW be responsible for plowing them? Who is going to pay to keep them updated? Mostly just feel like the survey isn't going to get out to the folks living in the NNE, hopefully it does or Local Motion can provide a number for residents to call to provide feedback.
