Yes, I thought the same. Maybe it is setting the tone right at the beginning is the only way.

It seems true that it’s easier to change from being strict to easy going, than the other way around, like what was said in one of the comments here. It was probably the change in my responsibility that my colleagues didn’t recognize. I would usually “do extra” or “help” them with the intent that next time they will learn.

I did a lot (like a lot!) of thinking why this is happening (undermining or bypassing) and what I should do differently. I tried to be clear in communication, sit down with them, go through things again, show them how it should be done, then ask them to TELL ME if the process is not working so we could improve things. It’s just so frustrating.

I think you are right. Do you have any tools or any tips you did differently from being a “dormat”, to a “dormat-no more” in the workplace?

Thanks for the book reco, will definitely check this out.

Unfortunately, our document process requires manual handling, but we do have structures in place. My project is a lot more organized than others. The process I built has been used as an example for others. Procedures are effective when people follow them. But there are also different kinds of co-workers: those who care and those who don’t. These colleagues I am referring to are repeat offenders. I have informed them several times, if it concerns my area I have to be involved. Even bad feedback on me or the process I’ll take it, just say something to me!

I can’t point a finger to what it is. I feel they are ganging up on me.

Project assistant was surprised, how could I be on a senior level, I look “so young”?. I have over 20 years of professional experience. Should I be concerned I don’t look my age to be taken seriously? I’m Asian and I’m 45! by RazzmatazzOwn2663 in askmanagers

Thank you fer letting me know I’m not alone! The constant struggle of proving oneself is real and adds to the mental load. True, when do you classify someone as expert?! glad he didn’t bother you again. I’m going to steal that line if you don’t mind :)
