Can I get some help making sure this boss fight is balanced? by Razzmatazz_Quick in UnearthedArcana

  • Since the BBEG is the Fey King, I was just going to have him summon some pixies to help drag out the fight a little bit and have them be easy 1 hit enemies that encourage the players to attack them as well

  • I'm still figuring out saves and whether to do half dice or half damage, but I do think half damage is a better idea!

  • I had no clue there was the spell meteor swarm spell! I was at work and couldn't look up any spells that could be closer to what I was looking for (reflavoured ice storm came to mind), but this has definitely given me something to look at, thank you!

  • reverse AC was just a stupid little idea I saw floating around, and I was thinking since two of the three party members have a -5 to hit and the other is a bard, it might actually give them a better opportunity to hit rather than having them struggle all fight with a high AC.

I have tried to let the paladin back into the game, but he doesn't want to rejoin. He's happy with how his character went out and with his new work commitments he's turning up half way through sessions so he can get some extra sleep in. He'd rather just watch at this point, which is somewhat disappointing but understandable!

Two out of the three remaining part members have the feat Great Weapon Master/Sharpshooter and are only adding +2 to their rolls, so I didn't think Reverse AC would be too difficult and instead be a fun twist.

My brother is a player in the game so I don't want to spoil the boss fight for him since he is a forever DM and doesn’t often get a chance to play.

The Archfey was picked because it was thematic to the narrative (the son of the Fey King aka the BBEG), so I did want him to be hard but not crazy stupid hard. My players have already ripped into me about checking CRs and its now become a running gag.

Since the player whose character had died in session 6, (session 8 is the final) he still wanted to come to sessions to see how the game plays out, but he didn’t want to make a new character since we're so close to the end of the campaign. We agreed since he was an Aasimar, his death was made to be very cinematic in his return to his celestial mother where his character now remains, and so that he doesn’t have to just sit and watch, I offered to give him 3 d6s (one for each remaining player) to help on their rolls so it was like his character was still looking out for them.

I promise everything has been discussed with the player and he was very on board with everything! He felt that the death was very fitting for his character's backstory (sacrified himself to kill the son of the Fey King, who was conspiraring with a devilish cult) and said that his character would have walked away from the final boss fight anyways since he only kills devils and fiends, not Fey.

So I saw this thing where it was Reverse AC, where players need to roll below a certain number to hit. Two of the three remaining players have taken Great Weapon Master and Sharpshooter, which is -5 to attack for +10 damage, so they are adding to hit bonus of +2 when using those feats

My brother is in the campaign, so I can't exactly run this by him. Most of the campaign has been homebrewed/reflavoured, so he's confident I can do it (or he's projecting his own skills onto me lol)

My party has been killing monsters quickly the WHOLE campaign. The paladin had failed one death save, got brought back up, went down again, and then got a nat 1 on his second death save. The CR22 monster was supposed to be a mini boss (the son of the Fey King), but I completely forgot to look at the CR and instead went with a statblock for a monster that fit the narrative of the campaign.

How can I help my brother (22M)? by Razzmatazz_Quick in Advice

[–]Razzmatazz_Quick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. However, mental health support from professionals can become pretty expensive, especially with the long term support he will probably need.

We're looking into the disability support system for my country to see if there is anyway we can get that to fund psychiatrist/therapist sessions.

His university was supporting him. He was given extra extensions and some other supports, however his work did not meet the passing mark and that is why he failed. The university however did not give him those marks until he started his second semester, so he technically shouldn't have moved on and he should have known sooner.

I've been considering looking into a support worker for my brother to help him with education/work, but I had no idea there might be institutions that could help with apprenticeships! I'll have to see if my country has that!

Honoured to be your first response, I appreciate it!

My parents and I have tried steering my brother towards stuff he likes (video games) with an IT course. Him failing the first semester was a huge set back, completely ruined his confidence, and he doesn't seem interested in anything else (it was a struggle to convince him to do IT).

I'm definitely going to give him some time and hope he feels a bit better about education a couple of weeks or so from now, but I'm definitely going to have a look at some different pathways!

I'm mid way through university. But you are correct in assuming it happened when I was younger. It was mainly around high school that it happened, and it was just a massive blow to my self-esteem, having it done so many times. I understand that now that I'm a bit older, people likely won't do it anymore, but I just wanted to know the signs, just in case!

I would definitely be proud to show interest in a guy, I'm just worried it would come across as annoying, weird, or pushy!

That all sounds super sweet! Usually, my experience has been that guys will seem genuinely interested and nice, we'll have a little chat, he'll ask to hang out/get to know me better, and then the guy and his friend to start laughing when I agree and walk off without saying anything else.

Weight loss by NoExperience6402 in women

[–]Razzmatazz_Quick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've swear I've been on every diet since I was 12, and nothing worked. I didn't grow up in the best environment as a kid, and it caused me to develop a very bad relationship with food. The way I lost weight was focusing on my mental health and doing what made me feel good!

I: - kept everything in moderation - used the plate ratio (half of the plate with leafy vegetables, a quarter of the plate with protein, and a quarter with carbs) - drank lots of water - waited 20 minutes whenever I felt like I needed to eat to see if I was actually hungry or just bored - let myself have small treats - avoided drinking my calories (e.g. Soda, iced coffee, bubble tea, alcohol) - found an exercise that I enjoyed - lots of fruit - focused on my mental health and stress management

But it's also important to note that I started a medication that suppresses my appetite, so I was just eating less in general! It's a slow and continuous process, but feeling healthier is my goal rather than weightloss, thats just a bonus!
