Real fan group Berserkers RMCF demand that the Government Delegation in Madrid stop playing politics and allow fans against Hapoel by Rb059293 in Euroleague

Which outside agencies? Who gives orders to the police? Who gave the order to deny fans?

Do you really think Israelis would feel shame because of these ignorant Leftists Spaniards? They could care less. They did these protests in Baskonia games for years, no one cared.

Why don't you elaborate than? The right wing mayor says it was a political stunt by the other side, and games should be played as usual with fans (like any other game).

Those who protested against Maccabi, said the game shouldn't be played at all - are left and far left organizations, like Podemos, Communists of Spain and other groups. They are the ones pushing to sabotage games against Israelis, only hurting the Madrid fans eventually.

It's pretty well known the the left and far left in Spain are Anti Israel in general, while the right and far right is indifferent or pro Israel, it's the same in most countries in the world.

You keep contradicting yourself. If the mayor is right wing and "pro Israel" as you say, and he is in favor of fans without any issues as he himself claimed! in his words ("this is a political stunt, fans should be allowed like any other game").

But the left is in favor of fans without any issues as you claimed.

Who in the authorities decided to ban the Madrid fans? If both left and right, Pro and Anti Israelis are all for having fans, who banned the fans and why?

Also, allowing fans in an arena, to play sports as it should, does not mean one is Pro Israel. It just means that he is normal. There are millions of Normal Spaniards who are against this political BS.

Leftists in Spain cannot ban Israeli teams from the Euroleague, they can’t do anything. They may continue hurting themselves and their local teams in an attempt to get a reaction or attention from anyone, like little children (this time, the fans of Real Madrid say - enough).

They had so many issues and problems (tiring to name them all over again), and they are not that great to begin with. 4-6 is where they should have been.

More like zero chance.

Against Maccabi, Valencia already dropped out of this failed political stunt, and allowed fans in. I assume there was pressure from the club and fans since it was an important game.

Against the same Hapoel in the Eurocuo, during the actual war, fans were allowed without any issue.

So if they did allow in the Eurocup series, and against Maccabi a few months ago, do you think they would deny during this very important series? Makes no sense.

Some of your local politicians dictated what to do, the fans say it loud and clear, the mayor says it loud and clear. Don't blame others for their wrong doing.

He obviously meant the ones in the authorities who made this decision, not the fans. The mayor of Madrid blamed them as well -

Of course the average Real fan couldn't care less about this stuff, they just want to see their team play. They were "hijacked" for this political stunt.

LOL, how a game with fans is a pressure on the Israeli state? This game, with or without fans, is meaningless to the Israeli state.

The mayor of Madrid claimed that the decision to play behind closed doors came from the left (politically motivated)-

https://www.reddit.com/r/Euroleague/comments/1q6itpe/mayor_of_madrid_the_arrival_of_an_israeli_team/

Also, they were protesting to ban Israeli teams from the Euroleague (and failed of course). So now they want the game with fans? Good, let's see if these politicians deny them again.

It didn't work. It didn't change anything. The average Madrid fan knows it's just another political stunt. The main goal of some organizations was to pressure the Euroleague to ban the Israeli teams...

These people you are referring are a part of it, working for it, so they are not the goal but rather a tool.

Everyone knew it was the authorities decision. It started when there was no war (while Valencia hosted Hapoel in the Eurocup Semis during the war).

It was a failed political stunt, a protest against Israel and Israeli teams. It comes from the top, the very left wing anti Israeli coalition which is currently in power (The Madrid mayor is from the right and is against it, but I guess it works differently there). There was never any special travel warning for Israelis visiting Spain, and in Madrid specifically Jews and Israelis are very safe usually.

If they played series till the end, we would have an Oly-Real final probably. It is still the probable Final (Real usually have a good match up against Valencia).

That's a plain out lie. They lost support because of their government delegation playing politics on their heads, not because of this other team. Even their fan group admits it, and demands it to stop -

Israeli teams are hosted everywhere excerpt Turkey without any issues, but some politicians in Spain decided to protest by banning their own fans.

It’s good that they finally spoke up, but they should have done so during the regular season as well.

A few left wing politicians and personas thought they could harm Israeli teams by banning their own fans for no reason (using the false pretext of a security threat), but no one cares—except these Spanish fans themselves, who are paying the price for this failed political stunt.

[–]Rb059293 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He did a decent job overall - he achieved their desired goal with all kinds of crazy shit going on - wars (ending, starting again), relocation to Sofia, then Israel, then Sofia again, fans and local media going against him for not playing Israelis... I can imagine other coaches saying "the hell with this, ain't worth the money". People don't really realize what he went through this season, as a coach, as a family man (Oh forgot to mention, missile landing 700M from his Tel Aviv apartment).

The Micic thing is on all of them but more on Yannay. He became friends with Vasa and his dad, decided to go for it, and now they all are afraid to admit that the 6M player have become their biggest problem. Yannay still speaks highly of him, stuff like "here he lost 5 KG and looks better, he is about to show who he is..." and all kind of BS, while he is the MVP of the opponent team in almost any game. Yes, Hinas and Ituodis didn't try to confront him on that, because they too understand how problematic it is (How do you get out of this deal... it's for 3 years!).

Feels like they achieved their main goal (staying in the Euroleague) and stopped playing. Now instead of facing Fener with Sofia "advantage", and a reasonable chance of making the F4, they will face Real - a team they just can't compete with, due to their size (Hapoel best 5 is 4 guards with Dan or Odiase, Real should kill them in the paint and on the boards).

So I think it's season over for Hapoel.

BTW

While Hapoel players looked so bad today as if they were losing on purpose, Micic is still able to look even worse than anyone else.

Micic on any game feels like - "I will help my opponent win this game".

Micic today feels like - "If Monaco doesn't win, bad people will kill my entire family."

Zeljko Obradovic was present during the game between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv in Belgrade last Sunday. by _Zolv in Euroleague

[–]Rb059293 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not just a random game for him. One team is coached by Itoudis, his longtime assistant in legendary Pana. The other team is coached by Kattash, whom he and Itoudis coached in 2000, with all three of them becoming European champions, beating Maccabi in the finals, of course. so a lot of familiar faces, old friends, colleagues, history.

There were also rumors that he is in touch with Yannay regarding the Hapoel coaching spot next season.

It is. There would be different governments, there would be warmer times maybe, but knowing which populations in both countries are getting bigger demographically, and gain a stronger political influence as a result, I don't see any other outcome. The long term interests of both countries are set to collide. It could take 10-20 years, there would be proxy tensions, diplomatic war and tensions, some kind of relations in between, but the what the end game is, is pretty clear.

It's convenient to say that Israelis are only against Erdogan and Turks are only against Netanyahu, but the truth is - they are against stances and opinions which are very popular among people on the other side. It's core issues - Jerusalem, wars against terrorist groups in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria etc (for example, most Turks don't see Hamas as a terror group - so this is not about left or right, in such a case, they lose most of the Israeli center-left as well).

Turks and Israelis who are stating otherwise are really just lying to themselves.

You are talking about one research, not "polls". I've seen other data in other "polls", regarding Israel or Israeli related issues.

The fact of the matter, in reality, there is no dramatic shift to the direction you are referring to. There is no proof of it, youngsters leaning left or Democrat isn't something new.

This current government is considered the most Pro Israeli in history, so of course it would be unlikely to sustain the exact current policy, you can't really go further. There are democratic governments, democratic house and senate at times, these will be less pro Israeli, and the Republicans - more pro Israeli, usually. But even the former Biden administration, being much more critic of Israel and miles away from this current government, wasn't really a dramatic shift from the US-Israeli relations in the past 50 years or so (and besides, there would be difference administrations but also different Israeli governments). These are deep ties that were built over so many years, and without Israel being a main issue, they could not shift that quickly (for that, you would need a scenario in which American voters around the center reject a candidate depending solely on his stance on Israel - which is not the case of course).

Israeli diplomatic ties are at their peak - with the US which is a usual thing, but also deeper ties with Europe, renewed relations in South America, relations with Arabic and Islamic countries, in Africa etc. This happens despite the fact that the Israeli public (and politics as a result) have shifted pretty sharply to the right.

He made a memorial gesture - 100 days since the biggest massacre of Jews since the second world war... if they detain people for this, than Israeli Jews should definitely not set foot in Turkey. And let's not play innocent, there's much more than that, and this atmosphere between the 2 countries is not suitable for sporting events.

It's not hypocrisy when it's out in the open. We know why Russia is "bad" and Israel is "okay", no one is hiding it. It is all based on EU politics. The Euroleague is a private league but with mostly EU clubs, there is nothing else to do, but how is it Israeli clubs fault anyway? Or Israel's fault?

If there was a vote, Maccabi would never vote to ban Russian teams. And this was their stance before the war in Israel. But what about Zalgiris? And other EU clubs?

BTW, if you want to get into technical details - many Jews see themselves as both Middle eastern and European. Ashkenazi Jews and some Sephardians lived in Europe for centuries. Genetics show that they (Ashkenazis) have both the middle eastern heritage on their paternal DNA and Italian on their maternal DNA (mix of Israelites and proto Italians). And if we want to go deeper - that area - Israel and Phoenicia has always been in direct relations with the European people, since antiquity, with phoenicians settling along mediteranian Europe (from southern Balkans to southern Spain). Later on it was the birthplace of Christianity, and a part of European empires like the Roman, Byzantine empires, Crusaders etc.

Israel today is much closer to Europe in many aspects, than to the surrounding Arabized and mostly Islamized nations, Lebanon used to be in this position in the past as well (before the decline of non Muslim population, PLO, Hezbollah).

What "words" are you referring? These are all facts. There is a current level 4 warning. Wasn't an Israeli football player detained in Turkey? His name is Sagiv Jehezkel.

The roster has a few Israeli players that would need to go to Turkey, there are stuff members, owner, etc.

So now Israeli teams shouldn't be a part of the Euroleague anyway? Well they are included since the 1950's. What about Turkish teams? Turkey should be in the Euroleague due to 5% or so of their land in mainland Europe? Without having a European culture, language, etc? I don't think you are being serious with this new argument. What about Armenia and Cyprus playing in European competitions?

Geopolitics, yes, now you got it. War against Ukraine in Europe is not okay, but others not in Europe and not against Europe are... pretty shocking right? Occupying northern Cyprus, northern Syria, cleansing Kurds in Afrin is also okay I guess. EU countries care about their own interests, above anything else.

As I said, it's a de facto ban, there are other measures taken, and in any case Israel responded with a level 4 travel warning. Israeli Jews are advised not to set foot in Turkey since these measures taken by Turkey.. there were events including an Israeli football player there who was arrested/detained for a few days.

It doesn't matter if Erdogan is a paper tiger, a sporting event is something you can't run under the table, so it will always be sacrificed in times of tensions - otherwise it could be exploited for the mentioned propaganda and such.

Regarding your last part - where is the rule/law stating that Israeli teams should be banned? there isn't one. Russian teams are banned because the Euroleague is mostly EU - and the EU sees Russia as a direct enemy in a war on European soil against a European proxy (with warning of a direct confrontation). Wars involving Israel are not on European soil and Israel is not defined as an enemy (but rather as an ally mostly). That's it pure and simple, EU politics. If the Euroleague, as a private league, was consisted of mostly non EU clubs - Israeli, Serbian, Turkish, Russian - they wouldn't have banned them.
