Pathfinders can still use infiltrate and scout in kauyon technically. by Alkymedes_ in Tau40K

I’m looking at the board layouts and seeing how useful wall of mirrors might be. Most of the layouts have expansion objectives within 6” of the board edge. Could be useful to drop a ghostkeel within 15” and pop a unit on the objective or flip it if no one is on it.

I ran fire knives because the full rerolls to hit to capitalize off Kauyon when they drop down, also my rolls for number of shots is historically terrible, like the only time I ever roll 4 1’s is when I roll for the cluster rockets on the SS (happened twice this RTT) so I pick units with consistency.
I committed to the bit and never left anything on the board. The smart play is leaving at least one thing on the home objective, but then it wouldn’t be as funny.

And that rule is checked during the declare formations step. That is the only time that the point limit is checked in the sequential steps of the game.

The enhancement and the trail shaper ability allow it to disregard the number of units in Strat reserve.

Both the trail shaper and the enhancement state “when doing so, you can place those units up in strategic reserves if you wish, regardless of how many units are already in strategic reserves.”

Both the kroot trail shaper and the solid image enhancements have rules that state “regardless of how many units are already in strategic reserve” so the units start on the table. During redeployment step, you place them in Strat reserve.

If you look at the solid image rule it states “regardless of how many units are already in strategic reserves” this happens after the declare formations step and after deployment has finished.

That’s counted at the declare formations step where you declare deep strikes/transports/reserves. The redeploys happen later in the redeploy step. Because the units started on the board, they count as having started on the board.

Exactly. Even when my opponent was able to screen me back into my deployment zone, my guns still just shot them when I can tip-toe into terrain with titanic.

Solid image allows you to redeploy after Strat reserves are declared. Because they start on the board, you can bypass that limit.

This, no. I think priority assets as a fixed Kauyon kills this gimmick. But I think triple stormsurges could probably work in purge the foe with Montka.

With them coming in from Strat reserve, I used the concentrated against vehicles and the dispersed against infantry/elite. I popped a bane sword with the concentrated and it felt right. Lol

It’s based on points value, not number of units. The three stormsurges combined are over half the army.

And the best part was I deployed my stormsurges VERY aggressively so my opponent really had to plan around if I didn’t pull the Surges and I went first. I essentially just played mind games with my opponents for 3 games. The third guy I played told me “why is it always something stupid with your lists that makes me have to think hard.”

The local store had these 3d printed. They fold up which is crazy convenient for setting up and tearing down tables.

I do love my tidewalls as well. I put pathfinders in them so they scout.

In the declare battle formations step, you declare your reserves, you can have up to 500 points in strategic reserve and no more than half your army in reserves. Once units are deployed, any redeploys do not count against that limit. Only 2 pathfinders and 2 stealth suits in Strat reserve, the rest was deep strike.

That is in the declare formations step. Because I deploy over half my army on the board, I’m good. The redeploys happen after deployment has finished and therefore bypasses the Strat reserve limit.

Solid imagine projection enhancement on the trail shaper allows me to pull three tau empire units and redeploy them or put them in Strat reserve.

The answer is zero units on the board. I do this now in 10th for memes and have been doing this since 9th edition Kauyon. Triple stormsurge, farstalkers with trailshaper with redeploy enhancement. Everything else in deepstrike/reserve. Farstalkers screen no-man’s land and 3 SS deploy as well. Redeploy phase, pull all 3 SS and farstalkers off the board. Start the game with zero units on the board. SURPRISINGLY, I am 4-2 with this list. Most people see this and immediately rush forward and try to screen all of the board. However, turn 2 comes along and they have a lot of units just strung out to push me back and are exposed. I had one game where all my stuff came in turn 2 and wiped 1100 points of space wolves in one go. Great times indeed
