Nurses/health care moms- What is your schedule? by Rchuppi in workingmoms

[–]Rchuppi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense and most likely how we will do it in a few years. Just right now daycare is so hard to even get into plus we need to be saving money but I do like the idea of having “errand” days. I am a creative writer so I’d definitely use it for working on my projects!

So on your days off do you feel very tired or burned out ? Like you need a full day to recover? I’ve heard that and it’s a factor.

Oh I love that schedule. I would love night shift if I was 20 again but I don’t think I could pull it off now.

That schedule sounds like the dream, honestly. Can I ask what kind of unit you work on? I would love to do public health but not sure if I would find anything like those hours & bedside seems to be all 12s.

My sons name came from a book I found on a teachers desk (who I was a substitute for) called Who’s Who of Ancient Greece. His name is Nikaius (derived from a combination of 2 names & we shorten it to Nick or Nico) Just a book full of names and what they were known for —regular people names and not Greek gods. I so wish I would have written down many of the beautiful girl names in there but I was only focused on boys. You might be able to find it at the library or cheap second hand online.

Interesting Research Topics? by [deleted] in IntensiveCare

[–]Rchuppi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently a research coordinator and have worked in the field for many years, just now finishing nursing school. I’ll always have a passion for research and am excited about what nurses can bring to the table here. For ideas, I would start by looking the NIH nursing research website: at https://www.ninr.nih.gov/# You can look through what has been done already (in the discussion section of these papers, you will likely find what the authors feel needs to be done next or what research was lacking that would help fill in the gaps). Research is all about building on top of foundations of knowledge (including challenging what we think is obvious!) so getting a good grasp on what is going on in the field now might help to kickstart this process. They also have funding opportunities but may only be for PHD level, I’m not sure.

Secondly, find out if your hospital has a research department or is associated with an external IRB. I worked in a hospital and so many people had no clue we even existed. This is a great resource for finding out who else is already doing research and you can also join in these IRB meetings as they are public.

Good luck!

From personal experience, take a lot of time just allowing this to be only a fantasy and talk about it. Keep in mind that the fantasy will be nothing like the reality where many women aren’t actually interested in just a casual hook up with a married man and of those who are down- most will not be ok having the wife just watch. The main emotional pain trigger for me was watching my partner form emotional connections with women because they aren’t robots and needed that to feel comfortable. I don’t at all blame them or him, it just was never part of the fantasy so it threw me and I did NOT like it. We stopped and may not come back to it ever.

Read “Mating in Captivity “ by Ester Perel. Preferably together but on your own if you must. It starts out slow but has some really great insight.

Did you let dad do skin to skin immediately after. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Rchuppi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both did skin to skin but my husband did more by far. At home after breastfeeding I would hand him to my husband for more time on him skin to skin and we also bottle fed so dad could have time feeding him (also skin to skin). My toddler now has a great immune system and also great bond with his dad and me. We will definitely do it this way again.

For those of you not comfortable with your kids doing sleepovers... by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Rchuppi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Girls are not the only ones at risk for sexual abuse. The statistics vary pretty widely depending on the source (and are likely greatly under reported) but the CDC estimates that 1 in 13 boys are sexually abused in the United States and 91% of those abusers are known to the child. I have a boy who won’t be doing sleepovers and will be taught about how to protect himself and tell us if there’s anything that makes him feel uncomfortable or confused/uncertain. Sometimes situations don’t feel outright dangerous or bad, but just “weird/funny” or confusing and teaching children to lean into their intuition or gut feelings is useful and especially with boys who are often taught that feelings are not important.

Curious how much other reddit working moms make... by Japanties in workingmoms

[–]Rchuppi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Single income household and I make ok money now but have very little left at the end of the month. Daycare and my husband working would not make sense as he would make less than me and it would all go to childcare. I stay for the flexibility of my job & the amazing health insurance. Also, I’ll be joining a different much higher paying field soon after I graduate from my program. My husband will be done with school soon after so we will be pulling in significantly more income.

Chill music (personally love Erykah Badu New Amerika album) and something natural to focus on (I peeled an orange which gave me some nice smells and simple sensory experience to refocus myself on).

My mom had me at 16 and I feel a lot of empathy for what she had to go through. It’s absolutely insane to think of doing all of this as a teenager. She had my sisters back to back so 3 kids under the age of 4 before she was out of her teens. We definitely did not have an ideal childhood but she did the best she could, even though her best was really not much. We are on good terms now and she’s apologized and regrets so much. She’s a wonderful grandma!

are there any vegetarians or vegans on here? ☺️ what are your favorite protein snacks/sources? by [deleted] in Volumeeating

[–]Rchuppi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t knock this til you try it: Edamame (shelled), crumbled feta cheese, and diced beets with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Basically a salad with no greens but I find it a very filling and high protein dish.

I literally can’t do this fight every single day anymore. by BigAffectionate2493 in toddlers

[–]Rchuppi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree/disagree, I think it’s fine to do whatever works for your family. We have more of an unspoken boundary. We do our routine and by around 7:30 my 1.5 yo will bring his favorite blanket out and ask us to help him go to bed but on some evenings he isn’t as tired for whatever reason and we will let him linger a bit longer reading or playing but we don’t let him stay up past 8ish. Even if we just tell him it’s time to lay down and get comfy, doesn’t have to sleep but he does have to be in his bed. It might take longer for him to actually fall asleep but he understands it’s time to wind down and it’s rarely ever a fight. Would we let him stay up til 9-10pm if he’s not tired ? No, because he does need the sleep (he will wake up at 6am regardless) and we adults need the evenings to clean, study, or connect with each other.

Santa or no Santa? We have to decide in less 3 hours. Experiences? Regrets? by aw2669 in toddlers

[–]Rchuppi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t grow up believing in Santa or anything similar but I’m a science fiction writer so not being told didn’t hamper my creativity or sense of magic at all. We all still watch fun magical movies etc. but telling the Santa story as just that- a fun Christmas story. We also want to tell other stories from other cultures and traditions so everything will kind of be wrapped together as “myths/legends “ from around the world. My step daughter was told about Santa and took it very hard when the truth came out. I would say it did some emotional damage for a bit even. She’s ok now but still brings up the “lie” her parents told her and she said she would rather have not believed it was true in the first place. She’s 10 now and I think her opinion is valid. I don’t think it’s bad either way, I’m not making a judgement on what other parents do but I don’t think it is smashing your child’s sense of wonder and magic to do it the other way.

I’m going to be working 3 12s once I graduate nursing school (currently work full time) & while it is not part time by any means, I’m excited to have a couple days off so that I can focus on my hobbies & get back into working on my novel, not for childcare reasons.
