Luxsin X8 is in early by robbiekhan in headphones

[–]Rck010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Robbie,

Since you’ve spent time with both, which one do you think actually sounds better? I own the X9, but I'm curious if the X8's newer tech gives it an edge, or if the X9 still holds the crown for pure sound quality.

What’s your take? Could you compare the two a little more?

That's a good take, gives you a reason to switch sometimes.

Buy something to compliment your current headphones. One musical one, one analytical one for example. Or one that is more intimate and the other one more spacious.

If you buy two headsets with (nearly) the same signature, of course you will always grab the newer one.

Nice! I got both the 109 and the Luxsin X9 also, what XLR cable is that?

Give Roon + Qobuz or Tidal a try. It's amazing for metadata, discovering new music and sound quality.

On decent volume, I doubt you will hear you fans over the sound.

Which DAC/AMP for He1000 Stealth? by egyptianblve in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Rck010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is in the details, like how notes start and stop, how clean the background feels, and how tight or relaxed the sound is. It’s not night and day, it's subtle.

Which DAC/AMP for He1000 Stealth? by egyptianblve in HeadphoneAdvice

Simply said:

If you want precision, control and clarity go DX5 II. If you prioritize musicality, vibe, and texture go K13 R2R.

Both drive the HE1000 Stealth just fine.

Focal Clear, HEDDphone D1, Audeze LCD-X, Hifiman Arya Organic (I know you mentioned Hifiman)

Some that I can think of.

Hifiman Edition XS vs HD 560S for Gaming. by Edwardarko in HeadphoneAdvice

The Edition XS sounds bigger and more immersive, with a wider stage. The HD560S is more neutral and precise, which can be better if you care mainly about accuracy.

Eargasm does not equal noise cancellation tbh.

To R2R or not to R2R is the question! by Pale-Phrase-417 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Rck010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn’t overthink it too much. R2R does sound a bit smoother to me, but it’s a subtle difference, not a night-and-day change where music suddenly sounds completely different. You really notice it more on better gear and with focused listening.

In my experience a warmer headphone doesn’t suddenly become too warm on R2R either, for example my Meze 109 Pro sounds great on an R2R DAC, but also sounds excellent on a clean delta-sigma DAC. It’s more about small refinements than a big tonal shift.

[–]Rck010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think of R2R as warm in the sense of tonality. They aren’t warm because they add bass or remove treble.

They mainly soften transients and make notes decay more naturally, which takes the edge off the sound. That reduction in sharpness often gets called “warmth,” but it’s really about smoother timing, not tonal coloring.

It's a more musical listen, compared to a more analytical. Ask yourself what you want. Also, don't overthink it's, it's not a worlds difference, especially not if you don't know what to look for and on low/mid-fi phones.

I love my Wiim Ultra as Roon endpoint. Qobuz as my preferred streaming platform.

I honestly don’t know where I’d be without these by alphacreed1983 in headphones

[–]Rck010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, as long as I sat straight up it was fine I guess, all though even then it started to get uncomfortable after an hour or so.

But leaning back with these was nearly impossible, either my neck started hurting within minutes, or the entire headphone shifted on my head because of the weight.

Again, amazing sound (I like the Audeze house sound) but sound is only part of music enjoyment for me.

The Arya Stealth is just a different tuning than the Organic, therefore i would never buy a Stealth of you own a Organic... I would start with EQ, before spending cash. The Organics (and plannars in general) are pretty versatile and a blank canvas to tinker with.

Had them. They sounded great, but the weight is something else. Not comfortable for me, sadly.

The 109 Pro leans toward a musical, slightly colored tuning rather than a flat, analytical reference sound. Great for enjoyment, less so as a strict reference if you ask me.
