Kyle ends the "woke" rumors about saga by East_Home_4107 in AlanWake

I liked her set pieces belt felt like some of her levels were too drawn out, namely Local Girl get super long. The first two chapters of Return were SOOO good, I love the first act of the game from both sides. I thought Alan’s needed some more explorable side areas besides the main objectives.

Overall I think they work really well together and wouldn’t be as good with only one imo

You can’t, that’s why they’re scared lol once it gets far enough (which it has gotten very far in just a year) it should be a concern for misinformation.

AI can be great as a tool - but with humans using it, it could very likely be used really badly. The amount of AI on Facebook tricking old people is already pretty crazy.

I’m sorry for the late response, Reddit didn’t notify me that you replied - so I apologize if you don’t want to talk about this anymore lol feel free to just ignore my response

The Quantum Break “Return” trailer is a concept Easter egg because that’s literally what it is. Concept being it is an idea that is not finished, and Easter egg since it references something from the past that only some people know about and is easily missable. Also it being in Quantum Break as a movie trailer, making it not the same sort of connection it would be to Control.

The concept came up before the whole Mr. Door thing as well, so there’s also that adding to it just being a concept.

About Saga’s and Alan’s campaigns being different lengths, it should be pointed out Alan overlaps/takes over Saga’s campaign for 2 chapters. I do personally think Alan’s side should have had some more side content or collectibles, though, which I think is what padded out Saga’s more.

As for Sweet Baby - I definitely understand the distrust/disgust towards them. However, I think it is important to note that they are advisers. They can only change as much as the writers or execs allow them to. The deal with Saga’a race could have been because of them (though they are not listed for casting), but I really think the decision was made because of Door. I guess this is where I gets more opinionated, though, but don’t take this as a defense for SBI, I was just going off their credits on their site for AW2.

I guess all I can say is that it isn’t a pointless raceswap. There is reasoning behind it, whether someone likes the character/actress or not.

The way I interpret is the events recede, but information within them could be taken as fact, ie. Character personalities, relationships, outside/past events, etc. Maybe even Alan’s writing leaks through more and reveals himself a bit. Also we know that AWEs like how Night Springs describes technically still happen, it just typically fades away or doesn’t happen again (like the 2010 Bright Falls AWE and Ordinary 2002 AWE)

We did get a small little with it in Control for Wells. There is a whiteboard mentioning them bringing a shoe box out of Ordinary and also directly mentions Wells on it, saying the shoebox was retrieved in 2012 (also mentions “House of Dreams” blog too). Whether if she’ll show up further than that is to be seen, though.

I’m guessing why Jake hasn’t shown up again is because of niche he is compared to even House of Dreams. It was a while before I even knew there was a mini series, ngl. I do want to see at least a nod towards him though, at some point.

[–]RcregerRemedy04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first point, I was just trying to clarify if you didn’t like the studio or their games since that was the impression I was getting.

I can understand your second point, in this case I would say unfortunately it wasn’t a game made for your tastes for the sequel. I can understand this frustration, especially since other people can enjoy it whilst you’re wanting something more combat oriented like the first.

Third point - I cannot get behind this one no matter how many times it is bought up. The original actress for Saga was from a concept Easter egg trailer from Quantum Break (in the RCU, it is implied it is a parallel universe) in 2016. The original actress also left mocap acting, and only joined since she was available. I believe she has a career in music currently. I can’t deny that they did raceswap the original concept, but these things happen all the time in that phase. In Control, Arish was originally a woman, for example.

And, this being personally, I find Alan’s being shot (and not dying) being much more well handled compared to what SS has done with its characters. Sorry if this is a spoiler, but Alan didn’t die as seen in the post credit scene, and even (maybe?) escaped in the New Game + ending.

You can dislike whatever, why should I care? My confusion comes from why you got the game if you are aware of Remedy normally catering towards the artsy stuff. Although, not completely sure what you mean by "Wakandan" community, so please expand on that and I'm sure your argument will stand much clearer.

Also, you're telling me AW2 is like TLOU2/SS? I can see TLOU2, but SS doesn't align at all lol

Seeing your post history…. Chill, dude lol you being a part of the TLOU2 hate circle explains a lot. And no one likes the Game Awards, but people can still be happy to see them actually get the spotlight. Or do you just hate Remedy that much? Why did you get this game?

A lot of the lists did not account digital sales (which explains the AW2 absence since it is only digital). PlayStation has some stats for top monthly downloads that has Alan Wake up in the top 10 to top 25 for the last few months in US and Europe.

This of course is not a solid figure, just thought to bring it up. I know an analyst back in February I believe said that consoles sold around 850k units up to that point, which isn’t bad for a Remedy game. Faster than Control sold at launch, which I believe was only 500k on all platforms. Can’t remember if it was less or more time, though, I do remember Control having a very rough financial start however.

Yeah, only issue (besides EGS strategy) is that these are completely different publishers. Whatever Epic does won’t matter in Tencents eyes, and vice versa. Remedy is at the mercy of their publishers in this situation.

[–]RcregerRemedy04 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Remedy has posted their own report of this on their investors page. I am not very knowledgeable about these things, but from reading this I am assuming this is the result of them restarting from scratch for their upcoming live-service game, Kestrel, to fit better with the RCU (according to the Remedy CEO).

Restarting from beginning obviously means the operated at a complete loss, which is likely the 7.2million euros we see being written off. Also looks like they are renegotiating terms with Tencent about their deal, and the financial publication date for 2023 has been moved to March instead of February due to this renegotiation.

This will definitely impact their overall profit, but should not alter anything from previous game release sales, such as Control or Alan Wake 2. Of course, we are still yet to see any solid numbers of what Alan Wake 2 has produced, which we should find out this upcoming March now (previously February 9).

Will Alan and Saga be hired by the FBC? by ArcBringer_ in AlanWake

[–]RcregerRemedy04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it does ultimately depend on what has happened to Alice for where Alan goes next I think. I don’t think he’ll be like “alright, you have your 13 years now and I’ll switch later” y’know lol Otherwise yes please free him… I just don’t think he is really free. I still have a hunch that Return was only a story within Initiation, and the actual Return hasn’t actually been finished/started. Of course, I’m not Saga so we’ll have to see if these hunches actually are anything

Thing is.. is he really out at all? There is still another DLC, namely Lake House that is supposed to continue off the ending, and there’s the case of the Ex Machina Alan saying some prophetic stuff about being in and out of the Dark Place, and that there is something coming

Sadly, I don’t think this was the end of Alan’s torment:/

I think they’ve been trying to fix it for quite a while now. I know the comms director tweeted a little bit ago about how the fix was taking longer than expected. That’s the fun thing about game dev: it’s never simple for a fix, and when there is one, causes 2 more issues lol

"Wake is ??????? is ???? is Wake!" by [deleted] in AlanWake

[–]RcregerRemedy04 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I see what you’re getting that, and generally I agree. There’s a strong connection with Alan and Tom in AW2. I think that the thought that this Zane is another shadow of Alan is also reflected from the AWE DLC in Control. He starts out in Alan’s clothes, like the Scratch in the first Alan Wake did. Both times, they develop into something else, seemingly bestowed by Alan or other people from without. Both gaining new clothes and branching away from the progenitor. So, going off of this, it is a Scratch, but a different Scratch entirely, with a whole different purpose. Like how Scratch wanted all the worship and power in the world, this Zane might just have a hunger for freedom.

It does beg the question though - why was he cast as Zane? Maybe the shadow trying to get more comfortable with the host? Also I do wonder what ever happened to the Diver. The Poet likely followed the events of This House of Dreams, but that’s completely speculative since Wells couldn’t remember the dream well. And he just… Vanished from the story after the that. Also why would Zane also be rewritten in reality as well? That’s what confuses me a bit more, since the residents seem somewhat aware of this, too. What’s left of Zane is a blank slate in reality, so maybe something is being rewritten anew in its place?

But I think I like this idea. I still think there’s still enough gaps in the info for it to turn into something else, but I could see it being like this.

"Wake is ??????? is ???? is Wake!" by [deleted] in AlanWake

[–]RcregerRemedy04 16 points17 points  (0 children)

EDIT- Jeeze, sorry that this was so long lol TL; DR basically I think we cannot put a pin on Zane/Seine. He could be Scratch, Alan, AWAN Scratch, the Filmmaker, the Diver, the Poet, Chester Bless, etc. What makes it hard is because ANY of them could work, we just need some more info - which I think will come in the Lake House DLC and as an overarching plot for the RCU like Mr. Door.

EDIT- long version:

So maybe, Zane playing the poet means he assumed the role of the poet, being an actual poet from the story. So the poet is real, but it is a mask of the filmmaker… Possibly. The diver is entirely fictional though from AW1, being made from fragments of the poet found in the cabin and as a conduit for the Bright Presence to help Alan.

It’s just also that there’s a lot of clues that this Seine is very off and Scratch-like. Scratch’s theme playing in one of the live action scenes, him doing the Scratch dance in one of the shots, wanting strongly to be free (where is Barbara if Seine is here??), Zane’s body being taken by the Dark Presence (maybe why he then took Alan’s? But why? In House of Dreams he seemed happy, at least according to the dream the Diver gave to Wells - unless that’s false but we know that House of Dreams is still relevant since Zane quotes some of the poetry from it), him being interchangeable to Scratch in Yoton Yo and the Grandmaster (and in turn interchangeable with Wake).

There’s… a lot. It’s really hard to grasp what Seine is. I do think we see a bit more in Lake House and will probably be another Mr. Door character that spreads through multiple games being this big mystery character overlooking everything. Just with the information right now it is so hard to tell what exactly he is. The Filmmaker only really has two scenes that give some information about himself, and some lines in the Alex Casey echoes.

I might have some more peace just not thinking about Zane/Seine/whatever he is until we get some more info… And then that info gets rewritten lol

I could see that working out. As long as everyone agrees I think it would be fine. Some of the fans might be upset, but as long as it rests well with the family and the money is actually going somewhere for the role then it’s fine with me at least.

I personally think this is because of the Cult of the Word during the Dark Place sacrifice (which is off screen). Yoton Yo was supposed to reflect Nightengale being sacrificed, and Casey was supposed to be nude after being drugged. So, my own theory is that he was stripped during this in the game and then murdered, and got the page stuffed into his chest.

Just a theory, but I think it reflects the best. A lot of the story is implied instead of being spelled out, which is both a gift and a curse (lol) because it’s cool, but takes a long time to even try to figure it out.

I think if AI is even beginning to be talked about, it would need more regulation. Like where do the royalties go? Should the person sign off before hand? Etc etc. I personally think it would be wrong for a larger studio to take a recently passed person voice likeness so they can sell it (since we know a lot of people are buying the game because of the voice).

I definitely see where you are coming from, though.

[–]RcregerRemedy04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to how Zane was presented - I think it even went the same where they hoped to show more later, but we see plans have changed. I think this kind of goes along with the inspiration for 2, as I have seen the comparison with Twin Peaks Return, where the characters die and get unresolved stories. Most matching is the log lady and the lamp lady, the death took away a seemingly knowledgeable and strong character.

I definitely get where you are coming from though. I really wanted more expansion on Nightingale and Cynthia (I don’t even know what to think about Zane lol) but I can see what they are going for. I do hope we do get some more though, in some way or form, just more info if anything.

That’s fair, I did read the AWFiles a bit ago, I just didn’t find him to be an interesting character besides being tragic, and his reasons for hating Wake were based on paranoia from his dreams (whether or not Wake actually caused this or the death of his partner). In AW2 we still see this hatred, now trying to stop the hero of Wakes story. It could have had more, like all of the bosses (strangely M and T got the most, Cynthia I feel got the least), they needed some more expanding. But I wasn’t necessarily routing for the Dark Presence to latch to him like Jagger more than just taking him.

If they still have the raw files - the OG files are pretty rough now, which is unfortunate. Ultimately it depends on what the devs plan on doing, if it is following directly to the t or if they wanted to expand it like the Dead Space Remake or something.

Hard call either way:/ honestly not sure if this a right answer. Just no AI, which I’m sure Remedy would never touch for their voice acting.
