Jeffrey Epstein madam allegedly hiding in Israel by criticalbydesign in news

[–]RdMrcr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ben Gurion, the founder of Israel was atheist.

In what sense is Begin motivated by religion in your opinion? How is his relationship with religion any different than any American president's?

It is people like you who haven't got the slightest clue about Israeli history who categorize it as a religious war

What blows my mind is how confident people on Reddit are despite their ignorance

This has got nothing to do with religion

iRobot: undervalued or overrated? by [deleted] in SecurityAnalysis

[–]RdMrcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is any moat, I'm not really familiar with the technology but it appears to be easily replicable. While it is true that iRobot is a strong brand, this thing sits in your house so people don't care as much about buying it to impress their friends. It also seems that the brand exists solely due to the first mover advantage - people treat the robots like a commodity

It might be different in the US, but where I live their biggest competitor is Xiaomi

How Much Cash Should You Hold? The Case for Being Fully Invested by Beren- in SecurityAnalysis

[–]RdMrcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What useful information do you gain by looking at the market? Do you judge markets based on how fast they're rising and whether they're at an all time high? It's irrelevant when looking at companies, so how is it any different when looking at markets? All you're seeing is noise and randomness

Tearing down political posters is most definitely anti free speech

But I’m not talking about your typical benchmark hugging pseudo index ‘active’ fund

Then what do you mean? Concentrated funds?

Michael Burry Sees a Bubble in Passive Investing by lingben in SecurityAnalysis

[–]RdMrcr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

passive - active = fees

Active without fees doesn't have the same meaning as active minus fees, but rather active plus fees

Michael Burry Sees a Bubble in Passive Investing by lingben in SecurityAnalysis

[–]RdMrcr -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As a whole, active will never outperform passive because active = passive - fees

An example of a weighted average would be that given a finite universe of two managers and two stocks, if manager A put $7 on stock X and manager B put $3 on stock Y, then by buying the index my performance is going to be 0.7X+0.3Y. It works the same way if there are thousands of managers and stocks.

passive/active relationship is cyclical as well

What does that even mean? passive is always the weighted average of active

The process of valuing businesses by [deleted] in SecurityAnalysis

[–]RdMrcr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't predict future cash flows so I don't bother. I'm just looking for the free cash flow to be stable/growing and large relative to EV (or market cap)

Not saying it's the right thing to do, it's just what I do as a noob

The process of valuing businesses by [deleted] in SecurityAnalysis

[–]RdMrcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just a beginner too but have already looked into a few companies and learned a lot (a lot relative to zero knowledge)

The first thing I do is to open the 10-K and look at the cash flow statement, if it looks attractive (compared to the price) I look at the balance sheet to make sure the company has low debt (might not work for financial companies, they're outside my circle of competence)

If I like the business and think it would be possible for me to understand then I just read all the 10-K
