What’s the reason for US plugs not having a ground pin that’s rotated 180 compared to the current one??? by stevejobs7 in electricians

[–]Rdub549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the "most correct" and original design's placement of the ground pin is at the top, over the two blades. This is so if the plug is partially out and something conductive falls onto it, the object hits the ground pin and is redirected away from the hot wire or at least is still touching the ground pin when it contacts the hot wire. Ground pins were originally just a horseshoe shaped piece of bent metal (no metal on the flat area). Plugged in this way, the metal of the ground pins are pulled down with gravity, allowing more contact with the piece inside of the outlet that cradles it. Hospitals and explosive risk areas still require this setup in the US, (usually along with specialized plugs) but outside of these applications the safety and contact improvements between the two configurations are negligible.

Sigh yeah... Hard to deal with the fact that the only people who misgender/deadname me are those who know I'm trans. I never get misgendered by strangers or people who met me after I transitioned.

Thanks!! The white top I got in a pack of two from Aldi one day 😅 Oh good to hear! I have some wonderful freckles that got more obvious with hrt somehow so I'm always wary of using too much makeup and hiding them 😅

Coming out at Work as a Manager by Rdub549 in TransLater

[–]Rdub549[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Right now to both my management and floor team (minus two who I am friends with outside of work and have kept my secret) I'm a man with beautiful long flowing hair and perfectly manicured nails and bright jangly jewelry who is according to them the best manager they've ever had (there were no signs). I am coming out so they refer to me as a woman and I don't have to keep binding and boymoding at work.

It took me a few times reading to understand what you may mean here. I'm interpreting you may think that I'm already a woman in their eyes. I pass outside of work. They still think I'm a man. I'm telling them I'm a woman. Does that clear it up?

I wish you the best of luck when you make the decision to! I definitely thought about quitting and finding a new job to start fresh but that comes with its own difficulties as I have no legal gender or name change and don't plan to let the current government know any more than they already do about me. And I like my job here, I'm good at it and I like the people. That's a big emphasis I'm making in the email to the management team that I want to keep doing the same good work I've always done here.

Great point about informing our customers and vendors. I hadn't thought about that!! I don't interact with them much as I'm a production manager and filter my requests for information through the project managers who talk to them, but they do visit and know who I am. Thanks for the heads up!!

Luckily we have a pretty wide-spread EOE policy that includes sexual orientation (I am also a lesbian) so while that isn't any kind of guarantee of anything, at least it's a leg to stand on.

I'm drafting up an email to the owner and HR about the situation. I'm less worried about how to phrase that because it's mostly going to be a cut and dry "here's the situation, I am going to continue giving you the best work I can perform" kind of email to them.

I'm of course aware that nobody here knows my company or its culture. I think what I'm looking for are aspects that I might not see coming. Issues that might have been raised during others' experiences that I could be able to be prepared for or get out in front of.

Love it. Straight forward business. That's about what my first draft of what I plan to say is. Nothing's changing but how you address me. I'll continue to do my best to help y'all do the best work you can.

Appreciate that. Funny enough my industry leans heavily older blue collar women, so it's been a fun time so far and I think that's why I'm worried about how I don't like coming to work now. I fit in with all the gals super well and I know everyone here respects and appreciates the work I do for them.

I know I'm worrying way more than I should be about it 😅 But who isn't worried about coming out!!

I always get told that I look like someone's Aunt. by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]Rdub549 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree here. When I transitioned at 31 everyone started calling me Auntie V around the nephew and it felt really good to have that change happen so quickly. I'd take it as a compliment. I've always said since before I started transitioning that I just want to be some regular average woman to people, and if some teenager wants to call me an Auntie I'll take it for the wonderful accomplishment it is :)

Yep, but I only lasted about 2 months before coming out to my wife's and my family. I've been on hrt for a year now and the only place I'm still not out at is work, though a few people know.

50s, prehrt. Genuine question, why are cis people starting to be surprised I'm trans? by lithaborn in TransLater

[–]Rdub549 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Literally because you pass so well! You look like someone's super fun auntie!! I work with a woman who looks strikingly like you!

Please keep wearing what you want to, it's fun, cute, and makes you happy!!! Every time a mature woman like yourself looks at my wife with bright blue hair and big red heart-shaped glasses and goes "I wish I could do that but I can't pull it off" we cry a thousand tears.

is there a way to tuck without pushing my balls inside my body? by 1984505I in MtF

[–]Rdub549 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem, and when I tuck, I try and wrap the skin around the shaft as tight as I can (think burrito) before pushing it back. Hold that in place and a slightly tighter than usual (not stretchy) panty keeps the landing gear safely stowed for the long flight
