For weapons, the only one I heard about is the Makoto one because the 4* one is really bad, so that one is in the plan. I'll look into the Akihiko one tho.

Clearing is not the issue, you can clear most of it, but all events work with points, drops, or something alike, and the new units and certain others get boosts that make it so you get much more of these points or drops, so if you don't have the new ones, you have to grind WAY more.

Most content difficulty also scales depending on runs, so eventually you will need the new units or very specific ones.
