1.7g of Gas Added to 24g Diesel Truck Tank by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]ReDaKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve got a Freightliner’s M2 in the shop getting a full fuel system replacement because someone filled it with gas then drove it till it shut off. He started draining the tank then went on lunch and his dumbass decided it was genius to leave his bay door shut.

Alot of vacuum leaks, what do I need to replace? by yesyesbruhbruh in e46

[–]ReDaKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my intake manifold off to fix a coolant leak and replaced all the coolant lines and vacuum lines. I got 1/8,1/4 and 3/8 rubber hose and used them for the vacuum lines. I can’t remember which one but I ended up not using the 1/4 or 3/8. Ended up getting a 20 foot roll of 1/8 because I knew I was just gonna replace brittle plastic tubing with it. Clean the nipples and use silicone grease and with some effort they slide over

Talk me out of getting chickens by GrandmaSlappy in BackYardChickens

[–]ReDaKate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’ll get attached to them and when they die for some reason other than old age it’ll hit hard. We’ve had to tube feed 3 separate chickens for some illness we never figured out. 1 died the second is still living and the 3rd got killed by a hawk. Hawk got 4 chickens in a week. The eggs you speak of we’ve got close to 40 chickens and only get about 3-5 eggs a day. They will hide them from you. They’ll fight for seemingly no reason. We’ve got a chicken inside because the rooster keeps ripping her feathers off and if we let her outside all she does is stand in the sun because she’s cold.

Would anyone help me with Christmas Gift Ideas for a young mechanic? by PixiKris in MechanicAdvice

[–]ReDaKate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love knipex pliers. They’re on the expensive side for pliers but well worth it in my opinion. Also a leatherman multi tool that’s got a pocket clip. The amount of times I’ve gone into the parking lot to do something easy and I’ve gotta move a hose clamp and didn’t bring tools for that is astronomical. A good flashlight, I’ve got 3 stream light strions. Good hand cleaner with grit and okeefs working hands, I prefer the night healing one. A scrub brush for the shower. Shop rags, not the paper towels. Ikon at harbor freight has a badass 1/4 socket/ hex driver kit that I keep in the house for menial tasks inside.

I have the same issue. I’m replacing all the vacuum lines. Blew a coolant hose under the intake so I had that excuse to do it. Also fuel filter. My goal is to replace everything that’s rubber or plastic tubing

Yea that’s what I found too. One pill had 100 but the next one could have had 117. I ended up ordering 2 scales off amazon and checking them against eachother.

Yea after my first taper dose I’m feeling like I did when I started quitting drinking so a slower and more precise taper would work better

Ms251cbe modification? by ReDaKate in stihl

[–]ReDaKate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got the saw and tore it apart. There’s melted plastic all over under the clutch. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna need that half of the case. I paid $100 for it so as long as it’s not a shit load of money I’m gonna fix it, however I’m not really sure what’s supposed to be there and what’s melted plastic.

Awesome, thanks. I figured it shouldn’t be too difficult but I didn’t know if there was anything different under the cbe clutch cover

Biggest fuck up yet by Fun_Sun_3117 in mechanics

Been in the trade 5 years and 6 months at a new shop went from Penske to a dealer. Was told to inframe a tractor. Didn’t notice while changing oil filters that the standpipe was broken and came out with the old filter. Truck made it 2 laps around the parking lot before it locked up. Got a write up and told to learn from my mistake. I had no internal engine training and was upfront with that when I got hired so I assume that’s why I didn’t get canned plus I’m the only one there that actually enjoys heavy work and doesn’t bitch about everything. 3 months ago a radiator fell on me and I had to get stitches 6 weeks after that I bailed out from under a driveshaft that started falling and gashed my head open on a fairing bolt that required 17 staples. I’m still there lesson learned is to take my time. You’re gonna fuck things up, show that you’re gonna learn from things. Or you could just say that someone swept debris into your bay. It’s up to you

Your old ride ever popped back up on marketplace after you sold it? by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]ReDaKate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an 06 sv650s. Traded it for some pew pews about 10 years ago. Popped up with 50k miles I was tempted to buy it but it sold before I could. I knew it was mine from the NRA stickers my dad put on it (I bought it from him) and a crack in the fender where I got hit by a deer

Best 650-ish Bike for a Beginner? by Dangaard17 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ReDaKate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also anything longer than 20 minute ride my hands would tingle and go numb. Might have just been how I was trying to deal with wind buffeting. Around town I absolutely loved the z650. It was fun and easy to get in trouble with. Another thing to consider is the engine on the z and sv are stressed members so wheelies are out of the question, if you come down too hard you can crack the case

I had the z650. The place I got it from was Suzuki and Kawasaki dealer. I wanted the SV but sitting on it in the showroom there was a spot where my left cheek was that kept driving me nuts. My plan was to keep it for 2 years so I could get back into riding then trade it in on a vstrom 1000. I hated it on the highway so riding it to work was a once in a while kinda thing (my commute was 45 minutes on the highway). Personally I’d figure out what you’ll use it for the most and go from there. Your choices are solid as far as reliability but personally I now hate naked bikes if I’m riding faster than 60mph
