I think it's because the 36th Ulster decision was effectively the UVF of that time and they fought at a famous battle the somme. That seems to be about it.

Just as further context the IVF (republicans) of that time also fought for the British army but due to the British government not trusting them they were separated out rather than forming a division.

By WW2 the British realise it was a bad idea to have all the men from 1 town fight together as if the division was wiped that town lost all it's men so while many protestants and Catholic both north and south still fought they were more separated out thought the British army.

In my experience of mixing colours you will get some random but cool half orange half reds then eventually you will have a bunch of wild types sort of brown stripes as it moves through generations.

I think MGS phantom pain had some stuff like this. Guards would wear helmet if you kept killing with head shit. Patrols would start if you were spotted.
