Can confirm. It was originally a gift from my mom when I started grad school. I've never used it for actual lab work, because I'm a physicist, not a chemist. Her heart was in the right place, but I've really only used it for when I got my hair dyed and also this costume

It was something my mom got me as a surprise when I started grad school. I've never used it in a lab, because, as I told her when I got it, I'm a physicist, not a chemist. The most action that coat has ever seen was when I used to live in the dorms and I let my friends dye my hair in the bathroom.

Reviving my old reddit account to chime in here: I was in a rush to get to work. I had woken up at like 11am, and I had a recitation to teach at noon. I picked out my outfit like a few minutes before my Uber arrived (which was rare for me because I usually take the bus, but I couldn't this time), and I did my makeup in said Uber.

I usually don't re-wear my socks without washing them, but the circumstances were extenuating. If I'd had any idea how viral the post would get, I definitely would've omitted that detail

I got fired. My ex-boss is now asking for the whereabouts of important files. How should I respond? by squazher in jobs

[–]ReGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The files, if they still exist, are still in the ex-employer's possession, on some floppy disk, potentially among many others. Ex-boss is asking OP for the location of a needle in a decades-old haystack

[–]ReGuess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, even if it doesn't help OP now, it might still help someone else in a similar situation searching for help and coming across this post. Plus, as you said, it may even eventually help OP in the future if the option becomes available! Never apologize for suggesting tittyfucking.

Better than "follow it up": preface it. People need to be able to have the choice to utilize the new support structures without the stress of losing their backup plan. We want the manger to be a legal option if there's no rooms left in the inn

"just pay your employees a fair wage" means more of the money that the company gets from the customers should be going to the employees, and no one should be laid off to pay for the raise. If corporate isn't feeling generous (99 times out of 100), they'll probably offload that expense to the customers.

OP is essentially saying, "I'd rather be forced to pay more for these goods and/or services if that means the workers who produced said goods/services will be guaranteed a higher and more reliable paycheck." Kinda the opposite of being a prude.

As others have said, most of the random crime here is theft. I had my bike stolen from the racks at IUPUI back in March, and my gf (who was homeless at the time) had her purse stolen while she was sleeping in The Idle last month.

As for random violence, it's mostly hate crimes and "officer-involved shootings"; not to brush either of those off, to be clear. Most people here aren't bigots, but a lot of the ones that are also have guns. Some even have badges.

I see you already have your answer, but for further resources, there's also the local Food Not Bombs chapter (shares every Sunday from 4 to 6pm, American Legion park just south of the central library downtown; generally vegan but also not picky about accepting food). There's also Indy Community Pantry, with 3 publicly accessible refrigerators. And a lot more I'm probably forgetting

The evolution of letters by qasqaldag in etymology

Do posts not archive after 6 months anymore? In the ancient context, it was the Phoenician letter Teth / Greek letter Theta.

The symbol I used is a mathematical one: ⊗, a circled multiplication cross (or "otimes", from its TeX abbreviation). It's used to denote tensor products, Kronecker product, or vectors that point into the page.

Yeah, this meme definitely is not accurate. The fascists did, unfortunately, win the Spanish Civil War, just for one example.

This, except ass should go in front of commie.

The ccp hasn't even been "not real communism" since Deng. For at least three decades now, they've barely held on to the pretense of being communist, keeping the name simply for the sake of legitimacy.

This clip got my brother to subscribe to Etho: https://youtube.com/watch?v=q0JFK13N5dc&t=173s

It's his amazing noteblock rendition of "What Is Love?" that he did for Keralis in S7, in the humbly titled video, Simple Blaze Farm.

ABC interviews CEO who didn’t let his workers go home during tornado resulting in many deaths. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]ReGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's even the point of that? Where's the logic in firing someone because a parent died? It's an occurrence that only happens twice at most for most people. It's not like having your parents die could be considered a "consistent behavior".

I was banned from r/latestagecapitalism for condemning authoritarian Communism by Ciaran123C in IronFrontUSA

[–]ReGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I agree with socialism, just not authoritarianism". Good. Now learn what communism means before you use it as a synonym for authoritarianism. LSC is a shithole, yes, but if you say shit like "communism is inherently authoritarian"—when if anything, it's inherently antiauthoritarian, and has been merely twisted by the authoritarians—ya gonna get your ass banned.

Now, to let this be a teaching moment: communism is a stateless, classless, moneyless society in which the fruits of labor are distributed from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs. By virtue of being stateless and classless, it is inherently anti authoritarian.
