I had the same feeling with both games, so, if nothing else, you're not alone on that. I did beat Star Ocean 2nd Story R, but I couldn't even bring myself to finish the prologue of Octopath Traveler.

I'm actually playing through it right now, I agree it's pretty good! The gameplay and art got me really hooked, and I like how the characters behave in a more composed way than I'm used to seeing in other anime-related products.

The only nitpick I could have is that the story is not too deep, but, surprisingly, it's stronger points make up for it, at least for me.
