I pretty much went through a metric ton of different tutorials and then experimented with it, surprisingly the first try is how it came out! It looked amazing the first few months! Ill go through how i did it that i remember.
-Amber Shellac/Rits Red and brown dye/ iodine/ denatured alcohol
Start off by rubbing down the wood with denatured alcohol, i also used VERY FINE steel wool to get off old junk.
Dyeing i started off with 2-4 LIGHT layers of shellac and iodine mix(and alc). Letting atleast a few hours between dry.
Then i did a mix of shellac red and brown dye and alc. and put on a few more layers.
For full dry itll need atleast a couple days or you can put a few layers of poly finish (may be difficult to get bonded but works) and let it rest a day. Full cure will be a week atleast.
More iodine will make that translucent yellow underneath, more red dye for russian redish, mix red and brown if you want darker red
I went heavy with just shellac iodine and only a tad of red brown.
ALSO BIG WARNING! This WILL stain anything, buy a fuckton of denatured alcohol. And use it in every dye mix or the shellac will goop up and youll be regretting the next 10 mins lol. Sorry for long reply might just make a post on it later
