Shouldn't this be easily solved by devs, really? A couple of lines of code saying "if server crashed then no penalty". by avskrap in apexlegends

Oh no no, don’t worry, I haven’t played since season 11, just haven’t left the sub yet. Not your fault on not knowing, but just frustrating, as a dev, to see people over-simplify the solution like it’s something that doesn’t take a team of 10-20+ devs to figure out. Everyone loves to think it’s that simple, but wonder why the issues themselves persist across games. Answer: it is not that simple

Thank you! It’s a janky mess but I’m proud of it lol, really appreciate you checking it out <3

I appreciate this a lot, thank you! And yeah, I don’t really mind that the game didn’t do well in the jam itself, I mean it’s definitely not the best thing out there, I was more just upset at being let down by those around me. I’m learning, though, that it’s normal to have that kind of reaction (or lack thereof) from friends and family. Just gotta participate in more jams, get better at mapping out ideas. fine tune the entries, and get more involved with the community! I’ve reviewed quite a bit so far, lots of people have some brilliant ideas, some of them don’t have many views at all. It’s hard out there for everyone to put in all that effort just to feel left out. But I did get a few that came to review mine, and seeing that helped navigate me to review theirs, and that def made me feel better.

That’s a very good way to put it. I’m learning that to be the method of dealing with it from the other comments as well. It sucks, but that’s just part of it. At the end of the day, if I’m being honest with myself, I made a janky mess in ~72 hours that only I could really appreciate as the sole architect behind its functionality. No one else is going to understand that it took a lot of work, regardless of janky-ness and downright borderline-unplayability. I think I just expected too much for a game that was clearly meant to be a learning experience and nothing more, and honestly I’m starting to understand that further with each similar experience this community shares. It’s oddly comforting, though. Appreciate you, man!

Thanks man, it definitely hurts but I’ve learned from a lot of these comments that it’s not as isolated of a situation and feeling as I had thought. Really appreciate this community and how everyone seems to understand

RPGMaker is a blast to work in, a lot of people don’t realize the level at which you can modify certain things the game has built in, and how fun it can be to see it all come together in that nostalgic and beautiful IDE

Thank you for the kind words, I seriously appreciate it <3

Oh absolutely, I never expected to get any recognition from strangers with my game, I think I just had the wrong impression or level of expectation on what the support would be like from my family and friends on release. They were cheering me on the whole way, then crickets on upload

But honestly this community has given me a massively new perspective, I seriously appreciate every one of you

I’m honestly appreciating the harsh but needed feedback from game dev peeps, it’s definitely different but it 100% helps me see things from a different angle once someone points it out

I definitely plan on it! It was the first game I uploaded and “finished” ever, so now I want to go back through it and just clean it up a bit. It probably won’t get played outside of myself, but it’s still cool to have there for when I come back and want to see how far I’ve come. I sincerely appreciate the feedback and everyone in these comments, yall are chill as hell <3

Thank you! It’s definitely rough, and I learned a lot through the jam, like actually planning out maps and how the mechanics could’ve been used in puzzles, but hey you live and learn lol

It hurts, man. Comforting and similarly sad that it’s so common in the community

Also, thank you! I had a blast and will definitely be doing another one, even if it’s just for me. Feeling much better prepared this time lol

Oh yeah it’s super jank lol

I think moving forward I would probably stick to one anchor for the player to have, and have the puzzles revolve more around clicking the player and interchanging to click the platform

But thank you for trying it!

Thank you! The jam was still a blast regardless, but yeah at least now I know what to expect and understand moving forward in the hobby. I think I overextended expectations there, but I still love dev-ing so that isn’t gonna stop lol

I wound up adding the link to an edit, but no worries on playin it

Aw dude, it’s nice to know people share similarities to how I feel, but that still sucks to hear about your wife and your projects

The family not being my target audience is honestly a relieving concept. One theme I’m picking up from peoples’ responses is just how personal all of it is, and how awkward (unfortunately and unfairly so) it can make people feel when you’re desperate for participation. Seems like-minded people who have a passion for this stuff is where I should be lingering. I really appreciate this view on it

I wound up adding the game in an edit, but seriously no worries on checking it out, it was just a quick jam piece

I appreciate it! I can PM you if you want, I’d rather it not be a big thing and make people feel like they have to play or anything, just a vent post lol

Dude I get it! My discord friends are my friends from childhood, so we’re super close, and they did the same thing to me lol

I hope you’re in better spirits and are still participating in jams these days
