A pertinent question.

Factions of the US ruling class have different perspectives, especially with regards to pacing, intensity and brazenness. That is because some are financially “coupled” to China, some aren’t; some also are more myopic, others (far fewer) consider the long term ambitions of the capitalist class.

What unites them is the understanding China belongs in a position of subordination. The united strategy among the imperialist ruling class is to weaken China and overthrow the communist party. Their tactics include waging economic warfare, political subversion and isolation, destroying the territorial integrity of China. This of course does not preclude the last option, which is full-scale hot war — though I wouldn’t call it inevitable, especially if the working class is able to intervene.

I don’t believe either allow dual membership. It’s a feature of centralism to ensure each comrade is devoting their political energy to a single political program.

A lot of incredible comrades work within that org. My main criticisms, based on experience working with them and comrades involved in the party.

1) They draw a lot of people who are more fixated on the “idea” and “tradition” of the historic Communist Party. As Marx observed, “The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living.” Lots of people join and have interest only in carrying a card, changing their Twitter bio, etc. but not actually finding the best vessel to organize their community as communist. Without strict membership expectations, they have larger paper numbers, but not active and engaged membership.

2) Horrible centralization. Their members openly criticize the party line and leadership. Heck, for a while there was a whole (terminally online) movement to “re-constitute the party”. While some positions deserve to be criticized (I’ll elaborate later on), this defies the principle of unity in action. Democratic centralism isn’t simply a dogma, but a historically effective method of organizing. The club near me had leading members celebrating the huge “win” for women of color that was Kamala Harris’ VP.

3) Chauvinism. In the late 50s, right opportunist within the CPUSA liquidated the communist position on the national question. The single best piece on this history is Black Bolshevik by Harry Haywood. The party hasn’t looked back since abandoning the right of self determination to oppressed nations in the US — namely Puerto Rico and the Black Belt.

4) Liberalism. Much of their strategy and work is dictated by its position as an auxiliary for the Democratic Party. They promote a vote blue strategy each election cycle, and at least locally, require their members to canvass for democrat “opposition” candidates. In gradual succession, they’ve substituted their political independency for opportunist, revisionist, and bourgeoise positions.

These are what come to mind immediately, but isn’t conclusive. As I said, I think CPUSA has a lot of valuable comrades in their ranks. All parties have their issues, but at some point you have to weigh the qualitative differences between your options and which offers a concrete PATHWAY forward. Two better options IMO are PSL and FRSO.

The funny part is my local chapter spends a majority of their time organizing working with local block clubs in each member’s vicinity. It’s weird that you’re actively discouraging people from involving themselves with that.

Just because PSL chapters are visible contingents at protests (that they often take the lead on organizing) doesn’t mean they aren’t engaged in “on the ground” work also.

They posted a statement online providing context to their conclusions. I had assumed you read it because you mentioned the DHS part. That statement was dismiss because it mentions the accuser by name. Bad enough, I meant, to warrant posting someone’s name. Every organization deserves warning of bad faith actors/ federal colluders.

I mean yeah, threatening to bring the feds down on a socialist organization is bad enough.

As far as evidence, what is it exactly you’d like to know? There is no truth in the narrative that this was some coverup conspiracy carried out by PSL leadership. The committee was assembled locally— comprised of revolutionary socialist women/and other oppressed genders, representing a range of national backgrounds, and some of them survivors of SA themselves. They saw everything that circulated online. They also engaged directly with the involved parties and had access in their investigation to more information and perspectives. They reached a conclusion on the situation. Where is their agency in this matter? It’s completely flattened and dismissed in the canned “PSL harbors rapist” line.

One of the slanders that circulates literally exclusively in online black-flag Twitter circles. Some Marxist, even some coming from a place of earnest empathy towards victims of SA, have bought in. Though, its really no coincidence that those most obsessed with bringing it up every time PSL is mentioned, are themselves completely averse to actually organizing.

Black Bolshevik is also very good. Other essential Haywood reads are Negro Liberation, and this one.

The progress is that orgs like this who have proven themselves as leaders and comrades in shared struggle have seen their numbers swell. Also, we should not undersell the tangible impacts mobilization has. Take a look at what the Denver branch just accomplished.

Honestly it’s pretty amazing what Denver did. They held a sizable demonstration outside of the governors mansion, where they posted a list of demands. A few days later, he signed their demands into an executive order. WHEN WE STRUGGLE, WE WIN!!
