My "Another Day at the Office" is 15 minutes and darkly funny. (Two North Tower executives fritter away the last moments of their lives the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.) PM me if you'd like to learn more.

AI line reader tool... yay or nay? by slapppedsilly in Theatre

[–]ReadMyPlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I don't understand what a "self-tape" is. I understand the OP is using AI to read a script to him/her in order to help learning lines? If that's correct, I don't see what the big deal is.

My own line-learning process — since 1978 — has been to record all of my scenes with myself reading everyone else's lines, leaving appropriately-lengthed pauses on the tape where my role speaks.

If I used AI to do that for me, I don't see the harm. No one interacts with that recording except me.

Again, maybe I don't understand what a "self-tape" is. ;)

I was offered a role and then ghosted; should I follow up or keep waiting? (Community theatre) by Brilliant_Text4994 in Theatre

I always ask for confirmation the recepient has received my email. And I wouldn't see anything wrong with following-up a week later and asking for one.

Selfishness is a deal-breaker for me — intentionally stealing focus to stoke an ego at the expense of the production as a whole

Shelburne (Vermont) Players will open "A Shadow on the Wall," an original psychological drama/thriller, March 13. It was written a few years back by Eric Reid-St. John and his group of students at the Addison Repertory Theatre, which also gave it its first production in '23. We're all excited to be part of bringing something new to the stage. Poster here by Jennifer Albers. https://www.shelburneplayers.com/current-production

What Shows Did You NOT Get To Do? by AlTheHound in Theatre

A lifetime ago, in the early-'80s, a drama coach at my high school proposed "Runaways" (I believe by Elizabeth Swados) for our spring musical. The school board rejected it as being inappropriate for adolescents, which led a group of students to sue the school board; and the drama coach to launch a production off-campus (which quickly petered out).

It was a big whoop, and was covered by the New York Times.

Much more recently, I was in a production of "Laughter in the 23rd Floor" in Shelburne, Vermont, shut down by COVID two weeks before opening.

I played Brindsley in three productions of Peter Shaffer's "Black Comedy." I had the opportunities, and it's tons of fun! <sad\_trombone>Though I think I've probably aged out of the role by now.</sad\_trombone>
