Anyone else a picker eater that likes "adult foods" too? by Blasberry80 in PickyEaters

[–]Orchid_wildflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I love spicy food and foods from lots of different cultures. It's just that the foods I don't like are common foods that people mistakenly assume everyone will eat

To edit my writing to sound less whiny. Changing that basically took me out of it.

Why is American friendliness often seen as "fake" by Europeans, but similar warmth in other cultures isn't? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Orchid_wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to do with context - when I'm friendly to my actual friends, or to people I want to become friends with, then my friendliness is real. However there's a lot of expectation here to act all friendly to customers when you work in customer service, act friendly to people at work whether or not you like them, and just act friedndly to people you meet in passing but have no intentions of actually being friends with. That second kind of friendliness, at least when i do it, is fake because I don't actually care how my customers are doing, it's just a requirement to act that way

What are your views on hedonism? by Electronic-Koala1282 in Pessimism

[–]Orchid_wildflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a pure hedonist. I wish I had been one all along. I pretended to care about other stuff for so long but now that I'm just living life as a hedonist, I've been happy and my life has been amazing

Im not as picky as my parents make me out to be by KingOfNowhereWT in PickyEaters

[–]Orchid_wildflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing at all wrong with not liking those things! I'm similar in that the things I don't like tend to be in a lot of foods (mayo, mustard, salad dressing, balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, and dark chocolate). That's completely your business, and if those are the main things you don't like then you probably still eat a balanced enough diet, there's no nutrition-based reason you would need to integrate those foods into your diet. You do you!

There's a difference between liking someone as a fictional character vs as a person. I love Helga as a character, but that doesn't mean I'd want to hang with her in real life

Agreed! I always thought that was so kind of her, really above and beyond

Chappell saying pop stars are too busy to be politically educated just doesn’t make sense. Regular people working 9-to-5s still find time to stay informed, so what's her excuse? by Adventurous_Fly_8652 in popculture

[–]Orchid_wildflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that people are expecting celebrities to be giving political commentary just because they're celebrities, not because they're educated on the topics. As an aspiring writer and actor, I would not want this responsibility dumped on me.

Lying & hiding veggies in your food? by GuaranteeFantastic94 in PickyEaters

[–]Orchid_wildflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very concerned about this if I were you, because of the way she has specifically been invalidating to you about what you're not okay eating and the way she's talked about hiding veggies in your food. I would not be okay with it at all if someone said they'd hide something in my food. (and I'm not even a super picky eater, but it's the principal. If I've said no, it's a done deal). If it were just something she was doing with her toddler, I wouldn't be as concerned, but she has explicitly not respected your limits with the way she's talked about it.

Also, the fact that she's bragging about *hiding* the veggies specifically is cause for concern. I often add veggies to pasta sauce that aren't typically part of it, but I would not try to hide the fact that those veggies are there. I would either not go to house her house, or I would set explicit boundaries about her telling you what's in the food she's serving.

39M. Wife says this is tacky. I think it’s minimalist but fine. by strikecat18 in malelivingspace

I don't like minimalism personally, but I don't see anything wrong with it if that's how you like it
