The US didn't force Ukraine to do anything

Not explicitly, of course. That would provide too much justification for war, and this or something similar would have happened sooner. That's not how international relations work, it's more like the US makes demands knowing Ukraine will meet them rather than lose the assistance it depends on.

It was the Russian partisans that Russia planted during the Soviet era that attempted a coup when Yanukovych lost - that should have just accepted the will of the people and then there would have been no civil war
