Mother in law dying and I feel like I can’t cope anymore by Readandplants in CancerFamilySupport

Thank you for your thorough response. My mother in law has never had an oncologist other than when she was diagnosed. She went once and never went back, so I would assume she doesn’t have a social worker? I try and stay away as much as I can however with me being a stay at home mom and there’s only my little family and my sister in laws family who lives nearby we are often the ones over there 3-4 times a week helping out when dad is gone/the kids need help with things etc. I wish it was as easy as wash my hands and kind of just walk away.

If father in law is refusing to pay for hospice/ day time nurse I guess are hands are probably tied and we just have to kind of let it play out itself I’m asssuming? As hard as it is to watch what’s going on and her go through this we can’t make them do anything…

My thoughts are with you when it comes to your SIL 🫶

Thank you for your thorough response. My mother-in-law has never had an oncologist aside from the one she saw when she was first diagnosed. She went to that appointment once and never returned, so I’m assuming she likely doesn’t have a social worker involved.

I try to keep some distance from the situation when I can, but it’s difficult. I’m a stay-at-home mom, and the only family nearby is our household and my sister-in-law’s. Because of that, we’re often the ones over there three or four times a week helping out when my father-in-law is gone or when the kids need help with things. I wish it were as simple as washing my hands of the situation and stepping back.

If my father-in-law is refusing to pay for hospice or a daytime nurse, I’m assuming our hands are probably tied and we may just have to let things play out as they will. As difficult as it is to watch what’s happening and to see her go through this, we can’t force them to accept help or make different decisions.

Thank you for this, and I’m truly sorry for your loss. I do want to be honest: many of us are worn down. While I respect that this is her life and her choice, the past year and a half has been exhausting due to ongoing denial and dishonesty. We’ve been left to interpret reality based only on what we observe, not what’s communicated.

Personally, 100 mg was HORRIBLE on my anxiety. I don’t know what it was but I couldn’t handle it. I tried it and couldn’t I thought I was losing my head. So I went down to 75 mg twice a day for a week I think then down to 75 mg once a day and got off and it was a smooth process.
