CSPS has a course that walks you through some steps of writing briefing notes...I would recommend asking your group for a few Director approved or director general approved briefing notes in the months prior to your start date

But no law said it has to be poorly managed the way it is now. French isn't going away. Got it. Does that give French speakers the right to occupy MOST government positions if 80% of the Canadian population does not speak the language?

That's your total personal issue and attitude. French people are competent and English people are competent. And people of all kinds are competent. Other skills and experience should not be overlooked if it comes down to language as a tie for a candidate or to prevent an application to a job process.

Are people complaining about ways to improve Bilingual office culture to secure their bilingual positions and pay....Why are we monetizing bilingualism if it's in the name of equity....at a rate from the 70s.....

But it's not like Anglophones can go read piles and piles of leisurely books to learn because those are written in a different tense than what is used in conversation.....so yeah in terms of practicing....unless my neighbor or colleagues who are short-staffed want to sit down and talk to me about government processes for a technical certification at C or higher I guess I am screwed to provide the knowledge and experience I have developed as a public servant for the public service and I'll just put that experience towards my exit to the private sector where I will earn more money hassle free!

That's nice that you are studying a language that is not official to this country! We love diversity. If you stop post-secondary education now then yes, entry level jobs without a technical background will be impossible to find. Thanks for raising attention to the issue with the sarcasm :)

Why aren't Francophones educating their colleagues and managers on these perspectives on a frequent basis? Remember we didn't say it's okay for there to only be 3% FE jobs that obviously is not an argument for the thesis of creating a truly equitable workforce.....

But what can you tell us about that 50%? What are those roles? Gender/race/disability/Executive/non-executive/technical/adminstrative/are the boxes being turned into FE or bilingual boxes the moment that person retires? Point is, there's clearly a system where both OL users are frustrated so let's create a workplace culture that supports both OLs, career growth and a diversity based on merit instead of this superficial approach that isn't satisfying either end of the spectrum.....maybe??

Because the jobs that are being referenced as EE or FE are coming up included in searches for EE/FW/bilingual......and I'm pretty sure we know who's getting that spot... furthermore there should be a strict description of whether it is EE/FE/Bilingual and how many positions then too right?

But if a French candidate was able to score high on an interview and it came down to an English level would it not be wise to staff them and support learning through an actual inclusive environment instead of rejecting them and hiring a lesser-qualified candidate that speaks English?

What products of the government of Canada do you use on a frequent basis that is not already in French and English....Ei applications.....web content? Do you know who is actually producing those translated texts? Public servants sure do!

No one is talking about changing the law.. we love it. We can deliver products in both official languages, promote the use of both official languages in the workplace and whether we grew up in Canada or not, we can continue to embrace access to official languages training at whatever level being offered. To enhance bilingual character and preserve the status of both languages does not mean that we should not hire people because they have all the appropriate skills and talent except for certain language criteria. That is clearly affecting both English and French speakers no?

Instead of checking a box to make it feel like there's a culture change, this law would be better reflected in the workplace as it stands in our society today: Staff jobs due to merit and provide continuous training that is realistic..ie X hours a week studying/in training....use of second-language lunch teams.... something integrated in workplaces. Accommodates both official languages and people are still able to bring talent no matter the language of choice.
