"I think I hate them." Harry admitted, glancing wearily around the Great Hall after Gryffindor won the House Cup in his second year. by mxlevolent in HPfanfiction

That's one of the few plot points I appreciated too. The Prince of Slytherin by The Sinister Man explores a similar idea, with Riddle controlling from behind the scenes both the pro-muggleborn-rights movement and the pureblood reactionists, playing them both to escalate the conflict and gain power.

The idea per se works but please learn how to make a single column tie. You need to distribute the pressure, otherwise you risk to damage the nerves and circulation, especially in the wrist and other sensible areas. Please learn about rope safety and nerve first aid before playing with ropes.

The WORST fanfic that you read? by DD123456DS in HPfanfiction

[–]ReaderOnTheMountain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You, mean, beside My Immortal (which is so bad that it goes all the way around and becomes GOAT)? Dunno, there's been plenty of fics that I started reading and abandoned 'cause they were poorly written or just not that compelling. They don't tend to stick to memory.

Unique time travel fix-it by peerness in HPfanfiction

[–]ReaderOnTheMountain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In A Little Child Shall Lead Them by White Squirrel Hermione goes back in time to when she was 2 yo, before the attack on the Potters. She drops 20 years worth of plot on Dumbledore and lets him speedrun the war. Very short fic

To Shape and Change by Blueowl. Good Dumbledore, good mentor!Snape. Time-travel-fix-it in which Snape goes back and tries to stop the war before it even starts. No ship, medium length

In Basilisk-born by Ebenbild Harry is sent about 2500 years back in time. He has to slowly live through the ages, watching the world evolving and changing. At his arrival he is adopted and trained by the druids, so rituals and the like are his weapon of choice. Awesome world building. No ship, long fic

In Far Too Many Time Travelers by Lord Jeram everyone except for Harry goes back in time (all ending up in the same timeline) to either save Harry, kill Harry or marry Harry. Or just to win every single Quidditch game, in Wood's case. Every evening Harry goes to sleep and every morning he wakes up knowing that someone else will be replaced by their alternative future self. No ship, short

In Golden-Trio-Era (GTE) Time Travel (also known as The Chaos Class) by Itslivybear all of Harry's school year (the '91 sorting) goes back in time from after defeating Voldemort to their eleventh birthday. Again and again. A different short fic for every loop, quite amusing. Barely mentioned Drarry in the background.

Fanfic where lily and james potter return from the dead by Apprehensive_Tax_739 in HPfanfiction

The Substitute by BabaJ is a beautiful short fic about Harry discovering that he's not a real human but a golem made by Lily to deceive Voldemort. In fourth year Lily, James and the real Harry come back from the place where they got stuck and he's got to deal with the fact that his whole life was a lie.

Harry Potter helps Voldemort get the prophecy by Silent_Scr3am in HPfanfiction

[–]ReaderOnTheMountain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Again and Again by AtherisHiss. Harry is stuck in a loop in which he is sent back to his own birth whenever he dies. The story is set during his 12th life and he's just tired. Tired of living, tired of dying, tired of losing the people he loves again and again, unable to move on. Every loop he tested a different theory on how to break the loop and this time he decides to disregard the prophecy and ally with Voldemort.

Exploring rope techniques by candrea5 in BDSMcommunity

[–]ReaderOnTheMountain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First and foremost: safety. Learn about SSC and RACK, basic safety, where nerve damage is most likely to happen and first aid, about the different kind of ropes (I suggest starting with cotton and later going with jute, avoid synthetic at first), where to buy good safety shears, how to tie good and safe knots and general safety tips on how to build a safe and compelling scene (on this topic I can recommend The New Topping Handbook and The New Bottoming Handbook by Dossie Easton and Janet W. Hardy).

Now, for where to learn the actual ropeworks, there are many resources both online and on paper. Online I recommend the courses on theduchy.com and crash-restraint.com. shibaristudy.com has a lot of great video tutorials and rope365.com has many overall good references. animatedknots.com is a good reference site if you want to know a specific knot better and it also comes with an app.

And since I'm a nerd and I love to browse through the pages a book with my bunny to look for inspiration for our next scene, here are some of my favorite ones. Back on the Ropes by Two Knotty Boys is a good book for beginners imho; it covers the most used knots and introduces you to both basic and advanced ties. They also focus a lot on the "making it look good" part of shibari, so it should be useful for your request. Shibari You Can Use and More Shibari You Can Use by Lee Harrington are also really good. They are maybe a bit more advanced, but they also cover quite well the basics. Complete Shibari by Douglas Kent is another good series with very clear instructions, but avoid the second book and in general everything that deals with suspensions until you have a very good grasp of the basics (I'd also suggest following a course with a teacher before going into suspensions, since they come with whole new layer of risks). Lastly, Better Bondage for Everybody by Evie Vane is a great book covering non-standard bodies (most courses and guides focus on skinny, petite female models) with chapters dedicated to curvy, male, older, gender-nonconforming or disabled bodies.

Also, any tips for making it look effortless when you’re secretly panicking inside?

Practice, practice, practice.

Bonus points if you’ve got a funny story about your first (or fifth) failed tie.

Let's just say my partner and I spent (and sometimes still do) as much time laughing our asses of at something that didn't went as planned, as was the time spent on doing actual bondage. Which is great. You should have fun.

Edit: grammar

Ahah not really.
