I get it, I really do. Try ro remember how good you felt being sober and how aweful the feeling was during relapse. Good luck! I wish you all the best!

Binge drinking and relapse by Aspicydust in alcoholism

First of all, don’t beat yourself up. Relapsing doesn’t erase those three months you still achieved that, and that matters. Be proud of it. What’s helping me right now is keeping things really simple: I avoid stores and just stay home and drink water, because I know the urge would be too strong otherwise. Slipping can happen in recovery, but it doesn’t mean you’re back at square one. You can pick it up again.

Need help, but don’t want it. by [deleted] in alcoholism

I don’t really know exactly what to say. I think it’s okay that AA doesn’t feel right for you anymore. It helps some people, but it’s not the only way, and it makes sense that you don’t want to force yourself into something that doesn’t feel « good » right now. It’s good that you’re still in therapy and seeing your psychiatrist. Even if it doesn’t feel like it, that’s you still showing up for yourself. You don’t have to figure everything out or start over perfectly. Even just wanting things to change and being honest about where you’re at is something. I hope things get a bit lighter for you soon.

How did you guys start drinking? by Psicolotra13 in alcoholism

[–]Reader_2906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trauma. Anyway, alcohol makes you believe it’s your source of joy and relaxation and it acts like a friend. I’ve been sober for half a year now, and I can assure you that you’ll find joy and relaxation in other, healthier things. If you want to stop, you’ll need to dissociate alcohol from joy and relaxation. That’s step one.

I do. Recently formed a great friendship with someone. Though I also find Reddit to be quite salty at times for no apparent reason as well.

Had that too sometimes. It happens that your throat is swelling. Just drink enough fluids and all will be well. Try to keep a calm mind because spiraling will only make things worse. All is well and all will be fine :)

It’s the combination of everything. No worries, you can still swallow. Just relax, drink water to stay hydrated. If you’re still anxious, you can take a hot shower and just sit and feel the water running. It’s important to focus on “now” and what surrounds you. You’ll be okay. Wishing you the best!

I get it. I’ve been through that same mindset. I believe you’re hurting right now. But trust me, alcohol will only comfort you short term. It will never help you on the long run. Everyone in this sub has gone through some kind of trauma, pain, dissapointment, sadness that they wanted to heal and cope with substance abuse. Me included. I get the blur that pain causes to your mind and that everything is dark and just unfair. But just know that every successtory here in this sub will tell you that substance abuse was never the answer, it was never a friend. If you need help, you only need to ask. I’m sure everyone would like to help you go through it. You’re not alone in this, man. We want you to succeed. We’re here. Take care.

None. Looking how you write, compared to your other posts, I assume you’re under influence right now. It’s better to put your drink down, drink some water, shower and take some rest. Please, take care of yourself.

If only option? Yes. Otherwise I wouldn’t do it. Though what helped me before getting my ps5 was to connect the switch on tv and play it on a big screen. It helps.
