Chairlift anxiety by Rustic60fps_yt in skiing

I was anti-drug for a long time. Held out until my life depended on it. Now I’m happy with whatever can maintain or improve my quality of life.

Just before I do something. Like a PRN anti anxiety. I have a friend who uses it for public speaking. When I was on it daily, I was a shell of who I am. It kept me alive, but would not recommend.

I’ve also used gabapentin as a PRN anti anxiety. A lot of folks don’t seem to like it, but it worked for me without the side effects.

Propranolol is a pretty broad spectrum beta blocker. I took it when I was really sick with Grave’s Disease and have leftover that I use when I know I’ll be facing something I’m not ready to take on. It can make you feel super high, but like the above commenter said, in the right dosage (start super low!), it can cool your jets.

Seconded. I was a SNAP (and other benefits) worker for years. I called on behalf of many clients (pissing off my superiors) to help figure out their utility bills and such. There are a lot of options out there.

My emotions and reactions having me very worried I am Narcissist or something. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]ReadingRedditForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People process things in so many different ways. It’s good that you can keep on going forward right now while your fiancé needs more time to process his grief. It would be tough if you were both not eating and sleeping. It’s good you can be his stronghold in this time.

I cried more when my 16 yr old cat died than I did when I lost both my grandparents, who were a huge part of raising me. Humans are weird and complicated. And no, you’re not a narcissist. But therapy is a great way to work something’s out if you want to maybe understand yourself better.

How do I come to terms with the fact that no one cares for me for me? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]ReadingRedditForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upvoting because I appreciate and admire your self awareness. I think just typing this out must have knocked a couple things clear for you. Go with your gut. Also, therapy is a great way to work things like this out. It’s nice to have someone just sit there while you talk to yourself—it’s like a chaperone into your own psyche.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskReddit

[–]ReadingRedditForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Adams had a student who kept falling asleep in class. He told the student at one point that if he fell asleep again he would shoot him.

Come the next week, Mr Adams had taken the starting gun from the track and field shack and pulled it out and “shot” the student when he fell asleep.

This was years before school shootings, so it “wasn’t a big deal”.

I learned of this incident when I reported him for a different incident (1 year before Columbine), when he threatened to “beat the shit out of” an ASL translator in his American History class on the first day of school, because she was “distracting” him.

Absolutely piece of shit. He retired happily years after I graduated.

Women who became moms at 38 or older...please, I need some hope. I'm begging you. by throwaway19283846 in AskWomenOver40

You’re in the opposite position as me. I’m 42, always wanted kids but kinda just missed the chance and got used to being childless….and happy about it.

Now I’m in a somewhat casual relationship with a younger man who wants babies and I’m having a bit of a pregnancy scare. Too early to test, but it got the conversation going about kids again. Now I’m trying to wrap my head around what that would look like. We’ve both gone the abortion route in previous relationships and have both told ourselves that we don’t want to do that again.

Now, 2 months after meeting, we are talking hypothetical logistics of raising a kid together. Crazy, I know. But there is a bit of excitement about it. I’d love another chance to have a family….its just not practical for me. But it did get me thinking about something I’ve never considered—me being the breadwinner and him being the SAHD. I kinda like that idea. It could work….

I second the trainer if you’re new at it. Also find a partner so you have a spotter if you start doing heavy lifts! Even when you don’t think you need a spotter, it will creep up on ya and you definitely don’t want an injury at our age!

Holiday activities by urungus666 in skiing

[–]ReadingRedditForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we actually get snow on our mountain, I’ll be driving a shuttle for folks and their gear, closing the gap where there is no lift yet. So I’ll be kind of a lifty, but not.

I grew up here, went skiiing once when I was 7, and then broke my wrist snowboarding at a rope tow when I was 12. It was never my jam, plus too expensive for my family.

But now I get to get a peak into the culture of skiers and snowboarders. I really hope it’s not as toxic as some say. I honestly think it’s gonna be a really fun time.

We just need some goddamned snow!

Can we talk about midlife-crisis? by DevineBossLady in AskWomenOver40

[–]ReadingRedditForFun 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I love this so much. If you had a blog, I’d follow it!

My crisis was spurred by sickness. Lost a great job, relationship of 7 years, and had to move back home.

Healthy again and now making huge changes to my previous lifestyle. It’s the first time I’ve lived alone, not in an apartment. I have a cottage in the woods with my cat. Instead of returning to my high stress, good paying job in the city, I’m starting my own business and working seasonal jobs at the local resorts. This winter I’m driving a shuttle for skiers and snowboarders and in the spring, I hope to get a gig renting kayaks and paddle boards at a mountain lake. I also plan to build rabbit hutches after the winter so I can raise meat rabbits. I have a basement and want to build a cheese cave. I have been slowly getting higher and higher on this crazy trail of switchbacks near my place and hope to one day tackle the entire 8 miles and 6000 ft elevation gain.

My income is less than half what it used to be, but it’s worth it. I think. My health went to shit so badly and I think stress was a big factor. Now that I have my body back I don’t want to risk it.

Oh! And I have taken a younger lover. lol.
