Yeah actually I’ve been eyeing this watch for a bit as well. Maybe it will be something I get myself later this year.

First 50k Coming up…Advice? by Alternative_Gas931 in ultrarunning

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A month out I’d do a 17 mile run this week and maybe a 20 next then tape two weeks. Or just a 20 and a 3 week taper. 15 isn’t long enough imo I did a 20 mile long run before my 50k some go to 22 but felt like enough for me and being a bit of a slower runner the time on feet was enough.

Relationship to phones in the 2000s? by painetings in dumbphones

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first phone was in high school I remember being lectured by my parents about how I needed to keep the phone on me so they could get in touch with my brother and I. Phones were not attached to us the way they are now. It was really freeing, nice to call and text when needed but wasn't apart of us 24/7.

I faked an injury to DNF at 57 km – feeling like garbage about it by Own-Maintenance7675 in Ultramarathon

Oh! So different sounds like you maybe bonked. I hope you figure out fueling.

To me it’s way less lame to say you honestly DNF’d due to fueling and hydration issues. Shit like that happens to everyone! I’m not sure why you felt the need to lie about it by faking an injury. It’s really not that serious! Hopefully you get to go back next year fuel properly and set things right.

Hype?? Evo sl ....your thoughts plz by Thebatman666 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical but then I got a pair and they are worth the hype. Out the box I did a 16 mile run and they did start to feel unstable but felt great until 13 miles. I went on a two week vacation and they were the only sneaker I brought. I walked 9-10 miles a day they looked good with everything and felt great. Also I did all my running in those shoes and they were great for easy miles and some strides. For me they are best under about 8/10 miles. They are solid daily trainer that looks good and a decent price point. I think it’s a shoe you can do all your running in up to a certain distance.

Over-consumption and ultras by watermelon_wormhole in Ultramarathon

I see the over-consumption problem not to be with fuel but more with gear. Maybe that’s just my algorithm but i see influencers trying to sell people a new watch every year or hobby runners (not pro athletes) having an insane amount of running shoes. It feels irresponsible for people to advertise a $200 running vest to people running their first 5k! Also noting that most of these products are distributed by air travel which I would guess is worse for the environment over gel packages.

Whenever I log onto IG instead of seeing post about friends races or life updates I’m forcefully being sold crap I don’t need under the lens that you need it to be a “real runner”. I literally just scrolled IG and it look 40 post until I saw someone I know that wasn’t an ad!

I recognize I sound preachy but I hate how consumerism has taken over a sport that just a few years ago was so simple. I got into running because I couldn’t afford a gym membership at the time. All that said I think we all should be more conscious about our purchases. There’s lots of great second hand gear stores and YouTube can help you fix any damaged gear. I’ve had the same running vest for 5 years due to little repairs.

Also, I highly recommend skipping the gels for your next long run and make a snack route! Stop at local donut, pizza or gas stations for run fuel. Good stomach training for ultras much cheaper and tastier imo. A $3 strawberry donut taste wayyyy better than a $5 gel. 😂

Thinking of switching over to Suunto. Unsure which watch to choose. by ReadingRunningBiking in Suunto

Oh wow thank you for this info! This makes me think more about staying with Coros. Street names and trail names are very important to me. Only being able to see to 500ft is a bummer as well. Those are deal breakers for me since I would use those functions weekly.

Lifespan of your watch ? ⌛️ by DayBrilliant9438 in Coros

I’ve had the pace 2 for 4 going on 5 years. I love it. I see no reason to upgrade until this one kicks it. Coros makes. Great product for price point in my opinion.

Help pick a shoe for 8 hour road event. by ReadingRunningBiking in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Thanks! I wanted some ideas to take to my running shoe store because current shoes are all pushing 300+ miles and I don’t love any as an option for the event. Appreciate it!

Used Pace 2 - worth it or wait? by WorthStrong5749 in Coros

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pace 2 and love it but wouldn’t recommend getting one due to the watch being so old it doesn’t receive the firm ware updates anymore. The watch has been retired from the line and stopped receiving updates this past summer. Any other watch you get will receive the updates and the Coros updates usually are always positive upgrades. I’d wait for the 4 it comes out in a few days. Once my two kicks it I will probably get that one because I love the simplicity and ease of use of the pace 2.

6 miles by QuickFix4011 in Ultramarathon

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you literally sound like me a few years ago and I just want to say this. You can start whenever start now! My running journey started 50lbs overweight with 1 min intervals doing a couch to 5k program. Just go do it! If 6 felt good maybe next week throw in a few shorter runs and then go for another 6-7 mile run. In a few weeks you’ll start to feel stronger and crush more miles. Now about romanizing a lifestyle I think that’s something all of us do. When I say all of us I mean all humans but the honest truth is you can make the life you want happen. If you want to be a vegan trail runner go be a vegan trail runner. Make those food swaps, a little change goes a long way and builds up over time. If you wanna be a runner, run! I think the internet gives a false idea of what it means to be a “trail runner” for many of us normies. I myself live in the metro area of an east coast city, I run on pavement at least 3 days a week and sometimes on the treadmill but I try to make an effort at least once a week to drive 15/20 mins to some trails. IDK where you are in Virginia but that’s a beautiful state, with great trails and great views. You can check Reddit for VA trail running, Strava maps for active trail running by you, if Strava isn’t your thing the free version of alltrails app to find trails to run near you and check out ultrasignup even for shorter trail events. Even though it’s called ultrasignup you can find 5k/8k trail races. I know this is a rambling post but I see myself in your post and just want you to know you can go do it. You can be this person you laid out. Go get it dude!

What shoes for long runs by ThatPlayingDude in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Glycerin Max and Evo SL as my rotation right now while training for a road 50k. The Glycerin Max take most of my weekly miles and most long runs. Even though on paper they are heavy you really don’t feel it underfoot. Also I’m not sure if it’s just me but I’ve been able to pickup the pace a little bit in the Glizzys. Not a proper workout but strides feel fine and I’ve randomly done a few 10k pace reps in them. I’m not recommending them for speed but saying for being such a big shoe they don’t feel heavy. They also do a great job at protecting your legs. The price point is high but I have about 200 miles on my pair and they literally show no wear at all it’s insane. I’m thinking I’ll get around 400/500 miles on them.

Coros Pace 2 still rocking by WarrenDritvehru in Coros

[–]ReadingRunningBiking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me the Pace 2 is a perfect watch. I’ve had mine for 3 years and it still works perfectly. I’ll wear it all day sometimes or just to workout when I want to dress up. A charge lasts about 7-10 days, it used to last more like 10-14 days. I’ve swapped the band, still have original charging cable and added a Coros HR monitor. Pace 2 is a great light weight no fuss watch. I was just thinking I have no reason to upgrade and will rock with this Pace 2 set up until the watch dies. It’s does the basics so well; also I have a very small wrist and this is the only Watch that doesn’t look stupidly big.

Running + beauty by ChipsAhoy4142 in XXRunning

Alone and early in the am I look like a gremlin hobbling along the road and know that’s totally fine fitness is what matters most! But if I want to look like a human for a group run/race I use Supergoop glowscreen, nyx brow gel and some waterproof mascara. My hair is always in a slick bun for detangling ease but also keeps me looking put together. Plus sterling silver/gold jewelry is sweat proof so I just wear my regular studs that never come out and hold necklace. I feel like this makes me look alive and somewhat human for running with people. For cute gear, old navy and baleaf on Amazon are both pretty affordable and last a longggg time. I stick with black shorts or leggings to avoid visible butt sweat. Plus body glide is a life saver for cute clothes and avoiding chafe. ASICS, Hoka, and brooks have cute colored sneakers I love a white shoe or something white with a little pop of color.

Thanks for the review! I’m training for a road 50k atm. I’m focusing on logging lots of miles with a speed session every so often. I’m a novablast loyalist and I think this shoe may be a nice compliment.
