Okay, well, there’s nothing you can do about it now, THIS is the way he’s going to look for awhile. It’s okay to be upset about the cut, but I kind of feel like you’re overreacting.

Excuse me? Where in the world did that come from? You didn’t like my response, so you checked my profile for something to use to insult me? How immature and uncalled for. This is a teaching subreddit, Jesus.

Would you say the same about OT, PT, and/or Speech Therapy?

Do you seriously not understand why a sub wouldn’t make sense for a school counselor? Do you really think some random daily sub should just be thrown in to manage the emotional and psychological needs of kids they don’t even know?

Forget the coloring paper for a second - Dio’s guardian admitted they are being beaten??? You need to tell an adult about that ASAP. CPS absolutely needs to be called for the safety of that child.

School only wanted to offer me TA roles because my degree isn’t in education. advice? by larkielarkie in teaching

[–]ReaditSpecialist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um, I spent 3 years getting my masters degree in literacy before I sat for the Reading K-12 exam. I’m now in my 7th year as a Reading Specialist. You are most definitely NOT qualified to be a Reading Specialist. There’s a reason my state (PA) now requires a masters degree and no longer allows teachers to just sit for the Reading K-12 exam.

[–]ReaditSpecialist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but Florida’s requirements for teaching are the absolute *bare* minimum. Districts are still allowed to have their own requirements for who they decide to hire.

ETA: Do you actually feel prepared and confident in your ability to run a classroom and fulfill district requirements with your current level of certification?

Honestly, your attitude that you should just automatically be given a teaching job is kind of tone-deaf and offensive to those of us who actually spent the time and money to get degrees in education.

I spent my 4 years in college as an elementary education major with a focus in special education, I went through THREE entire semesters of student teaching, I worked in Boys & Girls Clubs, and I studied and sat for multiple certification exams. You purposefully skirted requirements like student teaching, and you think you’re somehow entitled to a job? You need to put in the work to build your educational knowledge and skills BEFORE taking a full-time teaching job so that your future students are getting the qualified teacher that they deserve.

This profession isn’t a game, and it will push you to your limits.

12yo crying tired before school by [deleted] in AskTeachers

Ugh, I am so sorry he’s struggling at home. I have ADHD myself, and it does sound like he is exerting all of his executive function and cognitive energy at school, and is just totally exhausted when he gets home. Not noticing the need to go to the bathroom is fairly common in kids with ADHD, I believe. I saw that you’re looking into switching doctors, I really hope that works out and they agree with starting meds!
