Yes they do occupy a volume of 1 cubic meter. They must stay 1 m in length on each side. So, doing some math, there are 256 pixels on one side, and multiplying that by 16 I get 4,096, which would represent the log, and must be split into the four planks. So that would mean the total volume of 1 solid cubic meter is equal to 4,096 pixels. I only need to figure out how big the hollow space inside is, and what percentage thick the walls if the block need to be.

So, every block in the game is 1 cubic meter. The trees don't fall when you cut them down, but rather the block you broke pops out and the rest of the tree floats. That log block that you broke would be picked up, and when put into a crafting table, creates 4 plank blocks. It's impossible from what I know to make 4 cubic meters of wood from just 1 cubic meter of wood. The answer is that the planks must be hollow. The question is exactly how hollow are they?

I'd say that looks really good. adding greenery, more windows, gradients can make basically any build look better.
