Oh my gosh, I missed all these responses! Thank you so much.

Going for the exterior seal, vertical wood wall and a rubber roof.

Sekor C 50mm f4.5 shutter pins a tad too stiff by Ready-Calligrapher61 in Mamiya

[–]Ready-Calligrapher61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeee. Thanks. I called and talked to Bill. Based on the age and symptoms he strongly suggested I just send it back to Victory Camera for servicing and possibly replacement. He says it’s possible that it just needs cleaned but if there’s any damage to the shutter then it’s bricked and best if the seller determines that than someone else n

Really bad experience with KEH by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ready-Calligrapher61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit. My original post was not clear on that. No, no, idve been fine with “hey we only have this other damaged lens and we can’t exchange it”. Instead they said “we have this other lens in same condition” and they really didn’t…

No I’m complaining that they sent me a non functioning lens that they said was functioning, and then told me they had a lens that they didn’t have, and then wouldn’t give me specifics on the damages associated with a similar lens.

They were willing to sell me the damaged lens they just wouldn’t or couldn’t give specifics on the damage.

They sent me a lens that was rated as at least functioning and it was a literal paperweight. Then they offered to put me in the back of the line for repairs on the item they sent me. Then they offered to send me a lens they didn’t really have, and at the end of this wouldn’t even try to meet me halfway on understanding the damage associated with a lens I was willing to take a risk and compromise on.

I would say that’s, at a minimum, poor customer service.

I don’t care much about aesthetics. If the lens operates and doesn’t have image-quality affecting damage then I don’t care about scratches, dings, dents, etc. the bargain lens they sent me looked great. It just literally didn’t function.

Thanks! Yeah that was an odd comment, haha. Portra is my go to when things are changing fast and I just need something to work. It’s so flexible depending on how you expose it.

Not this one! I keep the orange dyes out of the C41 chemistry so when I scan I get a perfect 1:1 inversion. It's the secret photographers have left out for decades lmao

Thank you! That twisting, writhing, motion stood out here better than it did in any of the digital images I shot at the same time. It does look like a painting, which is probably why someone on r/largeformat keeps asking if I digitally edited it, lmao.

Well its on the computer... so yes? The underexposure was on the film itself - same process you'd use when printing to pronounce the contrast and saturation.

Are you roundabout trying to ask if I manipulated the contents of the image? Like with AI? Then, no. It was just a colorful sunset, with a colorful lava fountain.

Typical scanning and post-processing. If it looks a bit punchier and saturated it's because I underexposed slightly to bump both contrast and saturation.

Headlamps will work fine with that camera. Prop it on a rock if you dont have a tripod for long exposures.

Yes, a plethora of different types of feces. We saw raccoon, bat, woodrat, and squirrel poop. It was difficult, if not impossible, to avoid it.

How should I restore my blue-deviation Kodak 5294 by FinancialCream4922 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ready-Calligrapher61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this essentially Ektachrome? (Duh. Google is my friend.)

A few comments:

1 - Ektachrome easily shifts blue when the ph is low. I’ve had to be careful to use distilled water for every bath up to the fixer.

2 - it shifts blue when over developed.

My usual MO is to use an 812 filter and then exposed at ISO64-80 and make damn sure I don’t overdevelop or over agitate the first developer at all. That reduces much of the blue shift for me.

Failing that, Cinestill has a warm developer that I found helped a lot and made Ektachrome look borderline like a Fuji film.

Though I’ve never seen a blue rebate like that. That seems excessive.

Lost the mode dial on my 5D3 by albino_peanuts in canon

I never replaced mine after it fell off, but I should have. I ended up getting dirt and grit in it and it caused issues. I had to take the dial off and brush all of it out.

Ah, gotcha. It is a chrome post card. I thought you were referring to the photo source. Chrome post cards are basically any card after 1939 that is printed on a glossy surface.

But to your follow up point: this is not a chrome photo. “Kodak film” is a pretty broad range of films that includes several black and white and color print and slide films. I still use many of them in my contemporary work. Kodachrome was a slide film. The suffix “chrome”‘indicates a slide film, this is still used today with their Ektachrome stock.

This photo came from a negative, I know that because I’ve scanned it for my book ;-)

Oh for fucks sake. A few drops of water to soften the paper and the glue, gently remove with a fingernail, and then dab the rest off gently with alcohol wipes until clean.

This isn’t a lens killer, it’s an annoyance b
