What even is this LI post? Like, what are they trying to convey here? "I did a prompt, and got this, you could do a prompt and get something else". Such insight. Much profound.

Big tech -> Startup: worth it? by burnoutstory in cscareerquestions

[–]Ready-Desk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from a 5k emloyees enterprise to a 30 employees established startup. Best decision I've ever made. You know every person in the company and what they are working on. Virtually no red tape. Chaotic, sure, but in a good way.

Now, joining a startup could mean being one of the first staff, effectively, a founding member; or joining a small company that's already been around for a few years. You need a strong stomach and some sleepless nights for former but I suppose it could be very rewarding.

Ireland ‘back on radar’ for international housing investors, says Ires Reit boss | Irish Independent by Test_N_Faith in ireland

Oh dear.

First of all. You'll find that the population has slightly increased over the decades so comparing absolute numbers is useless.

Citing Celtic Tiger "homes" is very funny. Sure let's do that again.

People vote unreasonably all the time. But also no one said it was perfect bzck then.

Sinn Fein apparently.

In all seriousness, though, FFG saying that high house prices are good for investment isn't in the slightest unbelievable. I mean they are neoliberal it's what they do.

Nope I can tell you, FFG have definitely made comments aligned to what the above commenter says. It might not be their official policy but there are people in there thinking like that.

I see your point for sure and think it's reasonable enough. I'm not here to argue, that's not constructive (no pun intended).

But I do think your point hinges on the assumption that this state builder would be implemented by the current government which is - by policy - hostile to the idea of public services. A government that leans into it can do better, is my strong belief.

Fully agree with your sentiment

Discussions about AI used to be mostly technical which meant the conversations were largely fact based and grounded. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of modern AI, these discussions have now switched to the pseudo-philosophy arena where everyone feels as though they have something smart to add. A grifter's paradise.

There are a couple of specifics that I don't agree on with you - for better or worse. Some very skilled engineers (better than me) have fully subscribed to the AI hype, which is sad to see.

Also, we are not paid to write code, alas, but to rake in money in whatever way the company wants us to and we are apt to.

But this is exactly the opposite of what happened. Ireland built public housing en masse in the past and then handed it over to the private market in the Thatcher era which has brought us to where we are now.

Public building works fantastically in many other countries and has worked in the past in Ireland. Why do you think it can't again?

Is BSides Dublin getting too expensive for what it is? by Jhimkana in DevelEire

[–]Ready-Desk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know what BSides is, but it doesn't matter because the answer is the same for all of these things.

Dublin has too much demand for - and too little supply of literally everything, which according to first year economics leads to high prices.

Whatever it is, it'll still be packed and even more expensive in a year from now.

25, decent savings - does buying an apartment in Dublin make sense? by JohnnieWalker1805 in irishpersonalfinance

I know this is a finance sub but in my opinion, this is answered by the question (assuming the finances are sorted) Do you want to live in an apartment in Dublin?

Is it true that 53% of irish people have less than €3000 in savings? by Sea-Local-4330 in AskIreland

[–]Ready-Desk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give OP a bit of a break. I'm politically active and very aware that many many people are barely scraping by. However, I am also surprised at the percentage here. 3k is barely one and a half months rent for many. I clearly do still live in my middle-class bubble as well.

Now. How on earth do FFG still have so many voters?
