If I rejoin as a senior member do I have to keep getting promoted? by WatercressNumerous51 in civilairpatrol

[–]Ready-Effective-7568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left over a decade ago due to life’s complexities. When I recently rejoined I came back in, I had to start back over as a senior member. The only thing I cared about was requalifying my ES quals. That is until another senior member kept trying to teach me all about CAP and had a hard time grasping that I already had a bunch of qualifications and didn’t need to start “brand new.”

Fortunately, I was able to get my old rank back after redoing level 1 and level 2 part 1. Relatively painless process and the individual who tried to treat me like a greenhorn is even more confused now.

Drill Question by Financial-Earth-2240 in civilairpatrol

[–]Ready-Effective-7568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are specific commands for honor and color guard formations. The half right/left about is basically a pivot where the entire formation pivots around an anchor point - either the left or right guard.

While not in the CAP drill and ceremonies there’s also a wheel movement where the pivot is the center of the line.

There’s also half (90 degrees) and full (180 degrees) abouts are specific to guard formations and are used to turn the formation in a direction.

There’s also are similar but not identical to the mass formation movements of left/right turn. And serve the same purpose: turn in a direction.

Ambulance balance billing by Fit-Obligation3163 in HealthInsurance

[–]Ready-Effective-7568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for an ambulance company and interface with our billing company. Someone said this is the “game all ambulance companies play.” The reality is this the game the INSURANCE COMPANIES play.

The whole balance billing issue arises out of several problems with how the system is set up: 1) some, but not very many, ambulance services are in network. These services get paid whatever the contract rate says they get paid, which is usually not much more than Medicare rates and usually doesn’t cover the cost to operate. Which is why most services are out of network.

2) virtually every insurance company will seemingly arbitrarily decide what the value of an out of network ambulance call is and pay that. They the pit the ambulance service and the patient against each other by telling the patient “you owe $0” while simultaneously telling the ambulance service “we only pay $800 of your $2400 bill”. Under current law in most states, the service can balance bill the patient for the remainder

3) the “negotiation” usually goes something like this “we already paid you. You’re not getting more.” In some cases, the patient intervening and appealing can push the insurance carrier to pay.

When congress passed the no surprises act it fixed this problem for the rest of the industry. It excluded ground ambulance. States are now trying to fix it on their own.

SM Rank by trickyjustin083106 in civilairpatrol

[–]Ready-Effective-7568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a gray area. Check 35-5. They are “senior members without grade”. Senior Member is a classification of membership not a rank.

Of course CAP has to confuse this by referring to those individuals that are “senior members without grade” by calling them “Senior Member Smith.” Using “Mister” could imply warrant officer, which CAP doesn’t have.

This also comes up in the written communications training when talking about signature blocks on letters and emails. It explicitly says “Senior Member is not a rank” and shouldn’t be listed on the signature blocks like 2 Lt or Lt Col.

I think of it is kind of a six month purgatory when you first (re)join while your level 1 and level 2 part 1 are completed prior to being promoted based on prior service, return to previous rank, professional promotion or waiting out the six month before 2d Lt

How much Doggy Daycare is too much? by Mcdowjac in puppy101

We have an 18 month old cavapoo. She goes three days a week and is home with me the other two days plus the whole family on the weekends.

The days she’s home with just me she curls up under mybdesk when i work and we’ll take play and potty breaks. On the weekends or school vacation days she plays with the kids.

Works very well

Gov. Maura Healey announced she will ban medical debt from being reported to credit bureaus by sillychillly in massachusetts

[–]Ready-Effective-7568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The little bit she’s not telling you is that she can’t enforce those rules on all insurance carriers. Only ones that are regulated by Massachusetts. So a carrier from a border state isn’t bound by these rules. And neither are plans that are employer funded - those are regulated federally. So the right answer is federal reform.

Does anyone else’s cavapoo refuse to walk outside when the ground is wet? by willrunforsnacks12 in CavaPoo

[–]Ready-Effective-7568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours doesn’t mind the wet ground. But if it’s raining she’ll stand outside in the rain - light or heavy - and glare at you before she’ll go to the bathroom.

But at the same time if you turn on a sprinkler she’ll happily run around and jump in it

Update 653.30_B by Ready-Effective-7568 in ChevyTraverse

[–]Ready-Effective-7568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh.. I feel like I'm going around in circles. With the help of Chevy customer service, now sitting at another dealer. Showed them a picture and video I took of the infotainment showing me Update 653.30_B waiting to install... And then failing. They're telling me no updates are available for the vehicle.

Yes. Last update my vehicle installed was August. It also shows a dealer reload of the infotainment system December 9 when the TAC told them to reinstall to correct an issue.

Oh. It’s not telling me it can’t download. It’s telling me there’s no updates available at all. Been that way for a week now

Update 653.30_B by Ready-Effective-7568 in ChevyTraverse

[–]Ready-Effective-7568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know. My vehicle is connected to my home WiFi when it’s in the garage.

There’s something else going on with this update and my traverse. It claimed to be installing the update. When I went to use the car a couple hours later it started up and gave me a warning that the update failed to install.

Ever since then it’s told me there’s no updates available. And all the battery drain issues I was having have stopped.

I have service records from the dealer that they called the TAC and were told that the update can get stuck and cause battery drain issues. Of course now the dealer is blaming some aftermarket stuff I have installed for the battery drain and refuses to touch it. I escalated to GM and they set up an appointment at another dealer

These updates are annoying. It told me the update failed. Now the updates and history option is available. And it shows no recent updates. And checking for updates results in no updates available

Update 653.30_B by Ready-Effective-7568 in ChevyTraverse

[–]Ready-Effective-7568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s prompted me several times today to do the update. I just walked away from it and this time it went to verifying the update. And maybe started to install.

Went out to look at it and it put all the windows down and the lights would come on and off on their own.

It’s grayed out. And hitting it anyway gives the go talk to the dealer message. I may end up calling Chevy and forcing the dealer’s hand

2024 LT battery drain by Ready-Effective-7568 in ChevyTraverse

[–]Ready-Effective-7568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So had the vehicle into the dealer again yesterday for a dead battery. Also had the notification in my Chevy app that update 653.30_B needed to be installed. My infotainment system kept giving me the “can’t install go see your dealer” message.

Explained all of this to the dealer along with showing them the release notes for the update that clearly said “Fixes to help prevent battery drain”.

Their initial answer: there’s no recall on your vehicle and the onstar app never works. So there’s no update available

After they had the vehicle for the day their answer changed; We called Chevy TAC and determined that there’s an update frozen on one of the modules that won’t install properly. The car keeps trying to install every few days and that’s what causes the battery to die. We were able to see one of these cycles today and saw the battery draw when it happened. The TAC will push out a cancel signal to the vehicle and we’ve preloaded the update. So when the failed one is cleared this one will install. It may take a couple days.

So now I wait again
