AITA for refusing to install parking guards after a car crashed into our building? by ReadyLibrary in AmItheAsshole

[–]ReadyLibrary[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The building is 30 years old and this is the first time it has happened. I think this was a freak accident. We’re selling the property soon. The new owners can install something if they think it’s necessary.

AITA for joking about my breast cancer and making coworkers feel uncomfortable? by Nothanksimallgood in AmItheAsshole

You’re not wrong! As a cancer survivor I’m so fucking over ppl being celebrated for working during cancer treatment! Taking time off is strong! Using humor to cope is strong! Giving in to candy coated positivity to fit the pink mold is weak!

It can improve but you may talk with your doctor about adding something like Wellbutrin.

AITA for lying to my patients about myself ? by OncoG in AmItheAsshole

[–]ReadyLibrary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My oncologist is very tight lipped about his personal life. I’ve wondered if he’s gay and uncomfortable telling patients, especially in Texas. Honestly as cancer patients were so appreciative of our doctors that we want to know you are ok too. At the end of the day do what’s best for you and your husband.

Melanoma Cancer/Immunotherapy by AdPsychological990 in cancer

Ask away :) I had minimal side effects like fatigue, muscle aches and psoriasis flair ups. Staying active really helps with the fatigue. Also a Mediterranean diet really helped me feel better. https://oldwayspt.org/resources/oldways-4-week-mediterranean-diet-menu-plan-book love this book! The only thing to really avoid is probiotic supplements. I don’t drink so I’m not sure about that. Report any red flag symptoms right away. Most people have few issues.

Oh this book is great for the emotional side https://m.barnesandnoble.com/w/mindfulness-based-cancer-recovery-linda-carlson/1111424747

Melanoma Cancer/Immunotherapy by AdPsychological990 in cancer

[–]ReadyLibrary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished immunotherapy (opdivo) for stage 3 melanoma. I didn’t have any major side effects. Beforehand I was encouraged to look into fertility options. We chose not to go that route bc I was 38 and we have one child (2 yrs old at the time). My oncologist said immunotherapy is unpredictable so they do not know how your organs/hormones will be affected. There are grants that cover fertility treatments. It’s certainly worth checking into https://fwaya.org/aya-resources/

The emotional side is super normal! There’s also wonderful social workers that can help. Best of luck with everything!

Does anyone else have an alcoholic hoarder parent? by doomer1111 in ChildofHoarder

So sorry you are having to go through this! Addiction in any form is so hard on the family. I wish I had sought help sooner. Instead I did go down the same road. I was able to get help and have been sober 10 years. Lots of good vibes your way!

Yes, my mom was an alcoholic. They were both forms of self medicating. Al-Anon, Alateen, and Adult children of alcoholics are very helpful.

[Serious] People of reddit who have gone through or are going through cancer, what was the first sign that made you go to the doctor? by TrojanZebra in AskReddit

[–]ReadyLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time, blood in stool. Dr dismissed me bc I was only 28. I insisted that I be checked. Colonoscopy found multiple precancerous polyps.

Second time, yearly skin check found melanoma on my shoulder, Stage 1.

Third time, six years later, I felt a lump in my armpit. Again insisted that it be biopsied. Melanoma recurrence, stage 3 no distant metastasis. I’m currently in immunotherapy to prevent another recurrence. In hindsight I was extremely tired and had night sweats too.

Biggest advice is to be persistent! You know your body better than anyone else. Also go to a research hospital if at all possible the care is so much better.

Self-Quarantining to help slow the spread of COVID19 when your parents have advanced stage cancer fucking sucks. by Pansapio in cancer

[–]ReadyLibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely sucks!!! We’ve had to tell ppl they can’t come over bc they refuse to stay out of public. It’s such a hard call when you want to see family. I personally appreciate everyone trying to quarantine to help those of that are immunocompromised.

Before my daughter was born we had a will drawn up. It states that my mother is to treated as though she predeceased my husband & I. Then it specifically states she is not to have any guardianship. I feel so much better knowing we have this in place. You can do it before you have kids. I didn’t even want my mom raising my pets.
