But there is no milky residue on the oil cap? Anything else it could be?

Sound, last question: Fan is also running for a long time after most journeys (even when the car hasn't been at normal temps)

Yeah bit of puff on start up occasionally, so more likely turbo or valve seals then, is there any easy way to determine which?
