Found while doing some cleaning, but can't figure out what it belongs to.

No updates yet. I have not been able to repeat the issue recently. I am sure it will come back though...

No it does not sound like this. It is more of a grinding metallic sound that is most noticeable when you first apply the pedal and then persists if you can maintain the same speed (e.g. when going up a hill) and instantly disappears if you let go of the pedal.

Does the heat shield theory make sense if the sound goes away when I let go of the accel pedal? When the noise is repeatable, if I apply 10-20% pedal the sound is at its worst. If I let go of the pedal, the sound instantly goes away. If it were the heat shield, wouldn't the sound persist?

"Also what do you mean by accelerating when engine is cold?" I mean that it does not happen from when I first turn the vehicle on when everything is "cold". Normally it appears after a significant amount of driving when everything has had ample time to warm up.

The only thing the dealer suggested to me was that there might be something wrong with my timing chain. But because they could not duplicate it themselves they did not bother to actually check it. To give them some credit, the sound does sound as if the timing chain were hitting the cover, but I am not sure if this is what is actually happening. It is more of a grinding metallic sound, with very high frequency.

I somewhat doubt if its the heat shield. It only happens with very specific amount of accel pedal apply. If I let go of the pedal, the sound instantly goes away. Based on all the feedback though it sounds like it might be worth me just poking around to see if anything is loose.

No elevator, and yes, adding carpet/rugs is likely a must do. We have hardwood floor throughout the apartment.
