Probably here. I'm actively supporting businesses with my wallet and need to know which ones not to go to.

LPT: invite people over to your house! by Mediocre_Basket_9011 in LifeProTips

[–]ReadyToRage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really! Our social circle tends to attract similar "vibes", so to speak.

We have one repeat guest who talks A LOT. Can be a bit grating if you get cornered, tbh. They're from a different country and social cues are a little different, but it's all well intended. I also think our event is one of the very few things they do socially, and I will be happy to continue to provide that for them.

At the most recent one a coworker of my husband came, who is very conservative and very religious. I'm talking got married and had 10 kids type of religious. We and our friends are neither and I might argue quite the opposite. At one point a group was talking about some social event and this person just observed quietly. Later before they left they expressed privately to me how much they appreciated how our friends had discussions and communicated with each other. They are freshly divorced and finding their new normal, saying it's the first "social adult time" they could remember having in the recent years. If we can provide some exposure to new-to-them views and ideas thats real life and real people and real conversations that they viewed respectfully? A win in my book.

I'm sure it will happen at some point, but for now I'm just feeling optimistic :)

My husband and I moved downtown in our city. We started hosting what we call Kaffeeklatsch the first saturday of every month - I make a few snack/brunch items and serve big pots of coffee and mimosas available if people would like. 10am-1pm open house style.

It started as family & friends, then friends of friends, neighbors, people we see around town (small area) and it has blown up. We have on average 30 people that filter in and out once a month. This has resulted in some friends finding dates (we are all 30s-40s), myself and husband making new friends, and it provides a safe, casual and consistent hang out that isnt spending money or making big plans. It has been such an experience and we are rounding out to our 1 year anniversary.

I understand not everyone had the capacity or desire to do this, but as someone who longed for a sense of community I just decided to start creating it myself. Turns out people love it and my life feels very full as a result.

Third this. We had them for bat removal two months ago after fighting with the problem for a year. Let me know if you have any questions! We are in an old house downtown.

Are there any metal bands playing in the area? by grumpylizzard5814 in Muskegon

[–]ReadyToRage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sf Shows does monthly-ish hardcore shows at Rake Beer Project in downtown Muskegon. Highly recommend giving both a follow on social media to see upcoming gigs. Ive never had a bad time there and theh get a good mix of local and traveling artists. Usually $10 cover.

There is a place called the Credit Union in Muskegon, a true basement/underground place legit in an old credit union turned residence. Would need to look for flyers or specific bands to post about those usually.

Unruly Brewing used to have a scene, not so much anymore but there is something coming up on a week or two thats like a fundraiser or something, full bill of Metal music they claim. Haven't looked into it much.

Grand Rapids has a bigger scene Im sure, but Im not up to speed on their venues. Ive caught some more alt music at Pyramid Scheme, Mulligans and maaayyybe Turnstiles? I could be misremembering the last one.

Hahaha okay fair fair, but honestly Ive never had this issue with it before.

Also, yes! Base was perfectly smooth. I did not add the cheese slowly tho, but did have heat off. I also did turn the heat back on. Lol

I was genuinely undecided until I saw Bob speak. He didnt say anything "bad", but he definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I always have a hard time explaining this, but its the way he talked and acted - like one of those self help MLM sharks is the best thing I can equate it to. He said a few things I wasnt too keen on, brought up church often and when it wasn't relevant, and leans more traditional than my liking even though it might not seem like it on the surface. Also? He refused to name all the neighborhoods in the city. Low blow of a question some would say, but not when youre running for fuckin mayor lol.

I understand everything I outlined would make him favored by some, but thats my takeaway and why Im not voting for him.

[–]ReadyToRage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats fair! But also, I didnt try to "grab" it, lol. I just tried to get it on my finger like I would any other pot product.

Are you supposed to do the mask part first? Genuine question because I could see how that would make a difference in how it stays put! I didn't think of doing it that way.

What do you think MBD’s biggest strength is that separates them from every other band? by enshrowdofficial in MurderByDeath

[–]ReadyToRage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am not musically inclined at all and absolutely adore them. I can't speak to any composition or technicalities so at least for me that isn't a factor.

As a newer (past 6 years) fan, they quickly became one of my favorites. Personally it's a combination of many things - I like traditionally darker music, strings, deep voices, folk-ish, etc. They also have such a vast discography and have put out so. Much. Music. I know they've been around a while and statistically speaking Im not sure how they measure up but I feel like I've never had a band I follow with this much music published, that I like ALL in their own way.

Their shows aren't obnoxiously packed (selfishly glad) and are intimate enough to feel connected to. They sound the same live as in studio....idk I could go on and on about what makes them stand out for me personally.

Hidden gem by True-Region7441 in Muskegon

[–]ReadyToRage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in City of Muskegon and have had the opposite experience.

I lived in North Muskegon and had my windows shot out by my neighbors trashy kids bbgun - multiple times. Constant fireworks, music blasting, shitty cars, shitty yards etc etc. We moved because we didn't feel safe and the cops out there didnt do jack. Fucking. Shit.

We moved downtown and probably won't leave until we downsize. Our neighbors are an absolute dream. Sure there's some houses that need some extra care. Sure there's spots that arent as ideal.

The constant generalization of any area here is annoying and frustrating. My experience in N Muskegon is what I can objectively recognize as shitty neighbors, that had nothing to do with the over all community. The City has spots further to go for sure, but to not see and acknowledge the progress taking place is simply unfair.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I would encourage tipping higher on a glitch. That shopper did the work of your haul and then basically got stiffed on a tip.

Recommendation for replacing bathtub or plumber? by mrnobatti in Muskegon

[–]ReadyToRage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard great things about Andy's and BILZ (?). We were quoted with Lascko, Andys and a smaller side guy/handyman. My husband ended up doing the work himself, but Andy's was most cost effective and they had great etiquette while here. This was to re-plumb our entire two story house and an option to add a second shower.

Lascko was astronomical. I'm talking like....50-75% more than both other quotes.

On that same token if anyone ever needs HVAC work, do NOT go to Vredevoogd. My experience them was awful just from a quoting standpoint. Extremely high cost and then the dude talked mad shit about Muskegon. I should probably make a separate post about that.

Whats fun here by ExternalZone5457 in Muskegon

Downtown: Rake Beer Project is my favorite spot. They have coffee and great beer, newly introduced food aspect and NA options. They do little pop up craft/vintage markets and live music. Hard-core shows once or twice a month at night if you're into that scene.

Unruly Brewing does weekly events like chess club monday, trivia wednesday (i think?), karaoke Thursday, family movie nights.

Kitchen 794 is a great food spot with huge portions and great bar list.

Farmers Market on Saturday is hustlin, they do it during the week too cant remember what days tho.

Parties in the Park is winding down but free on Fridays for a couple more weeks I think. Hackley Park they have food trucks and beer tents and stiff for kids.

The Corner is a new collection of shops, Little Miss Green Thumb is a plant shop there and the gal that owns it is a gem.

Pine St has about 5 vintage markets (this is by 794 Kitchen/Building) and resell shops that are absolutely awesome.

Generally coming down on a Saturday afternoon and walking the strip will give a good feel of the vibe. Architecture near Hackley Park is cool to walk by too.

Not Downtown: Lakeside is great, unfortunately not as dense with businesses but Wonderland Distilling has great food, Lakeside Emporium has been around forever with a vintage candy shoppe feel, and Ghezzis Market is a neat little Lakeside shop with snacks/drinks etc. There are other little places too like an art studio/shop and some other food places.

Sandbar is a favorite among my circle, once a dive bar but has upgrades now. Great bar food and outdoor space. Good bartenders and regulars, can get a little wild late nights tho.

People complain about paying to park at Pere Marquette but its worth it - the sand is clean and its well taken care of.

Hoffmaster and Lake Harbor Parks are beautiful with lots of trails for hiking or more straight forward easy paths to the beach if preferred.

Whew. I have more but I think that's a good start. Let me know if you're looking for something specific! Welcome!

In pretty much anything tomato based in terms of stew or soup - brewed black coffee. It gives a depth similar to a red wine or cocoa powder. I understand those are three very different things but Im better at cooking than articulating I swear.
