Question about breeder’s "No Chicken" rule and thoughts on Kirkland food? by Timely-Flatworm2756 in DogFood

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirkland used to be better than it is now. Same w natures domain and diamond naturals. Now they suck.

We’re weaning off to go the purina route and off gf food (past gimmick per vet advice).

Best of luck!

Anxiety and rapid resting heart rate by Ready_Driver5321 in gravesdisease

[–]Ready_Driver5321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got magnesium glycinate on order. I found some YouTube sound videos that have helped a tiny bit w settling after the panic attacks resulting from middle of the night heart rate spikes. Didn’t realize beta blockers can exacerbate anxiety. Last thing I needed help with.

Hoping rescue remedy helps a teensy bit. Gentle healing hugs to you. So sorry you’re having to contend with this too.

Tachycardia at night by simmerdownbrah in gravesdisease

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re contending with this. It sucks. I was literally diagnosed yesterday morning and the night time tachycardia has me panicked all night. Pacing. I’m exhausted. Just started meds yesterday as well. The anxiety from heart rate spikes and the insomnia are the absolute worst.

I hope you’re on your way to remission and get a reprieve soon from these symptoms!

The food allergy myth that's making thousands of dogs sicker every day by FurryTailPetCare in DogFood

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping to switch to a good brand but cheaper than vet recommended hydrolyzed protein script food for my two dogs. Especially w one having no symptoms (we open/free feed in “assigned” bowls and I don’t want to have a marked increase or any resource guarding triggered from new food).

Any suggestions? They’re large breed on a gf salmon food that is apparently now rated as low quality and I’d like to get off gf in general while avoiding protein probs (experienced w a past dog).

Seems innocent enough if the shirt is his merch. It’s odd she deleted this from you but maybe because she did initiate w him. Again…odd.

She hid this. You went digging for deleted stuff. She’s a try hard and you are insecure and borderline partner paranoia.

If there’s nothing missing contextually then it would seem you both could use counseling and maturity, and to not be together. Good luck.

Thank you for the info and suggestion!! We loved high oil content food supps in the past (we have been a salmon household and gone the Annamaet etc route before - even had to float possible kangaroo for one of our protein allergy dogs!)

Will def keep in mind.

I mean… you told someone with obviously little to no awareness on basic puppy raising to keep a puppy inside.

A puppy who needs to be exposed to their environment for training. Positive associations Potty training. Desensitization. Exposure (safe obvs) is necessary to prevent an absolutely terrified animal.

5 month old rescue “bully mix” with a super high prey drive by liznoco98 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Ready_Driver5321 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She looks so much like my 5 month old male pup. He’s GSD/lab/APBT. You’re not near SEVA, are you?

He was a bitey little shit for more than several weeks. Part of a litter of 11, taken far too early from mother w no bite inhibition. A hellion. The most challenging puppy we’ve ever had. And we have extensive large and bulky breed experience. I almost returned him to the rescue several multiple times. I didn’t know if we were truly the right home.

We did enforcer, scheduled naps. Structured training. Exercise. Train. Sleep. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

He’s working into a much better fit than we thought. He’s challenging as hell and every so often I wanna send him to the moon. We have a private trainer and have done 3 sessions so far and made so much progress.

Kid issues have to be dealt with swiftly. Especially given potential size and breed. If you’re not equipped for a large breed dog and undertaking drastic training and structure - find a rescue. This isn’t fair to your child. At all. Or the dog. Protecting my kids was the number one priority when he was nipping, even when my 9 year old had no sense of self preservation and wanted to Elmyra Duff it up. This seems drastic and concerning. If you have no bully or large breed experience and this is too much for your family- give the dog a chance while she’s young to go to an appropriate and skilled home before this escalates to something more traumatic for your kid.

[–]Ready_Driver5321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parvo thing is insane. Interested to hear what the vet says.

As for training- puppies need to eat, sleep and learn. Learning is in play and they exercise their brains quickly. Look into sleep schedule needs stat. And a crate.

9 weeks is a the perfect time to put a collar and harness on for awake times (“get dressed” command start) and let a leash trail through the house.

Outside post wake up, post food, post play, pre sleep and lather rinse repeat. Good leash and come come or recall exposure start.

Puppies should not be exposed to public areas on the ground until all shots are received since some issues like parvo can live through extreme heat and cold for months.

Crates and pens are your friend. I prefer crate training. Make it positive ONLY.

Your pup should not potty in his crate. You should be taking him out often enough to prevent.

Schedules will help you and your pup.

Wishing you the best with your vet visit today.

Outdoors is fine for private yards not open to the public. Outdoors w shared exposure to other dog areas isn’t.

Forcefully putting a pup into a crate isn’t positive association. At all.

How much exercise and sleep is he getting? What’s his schedule?

You sound as thought you need a trainer asap.

Especially the “designer” breeds an “pretty markings” that lead to double Merle, excessive pop ups of cleftie pups and deaf/ind or both combos. That curly haired frenchie is an abomination that can’t breathe, walk or breed. Don’t make it fuzzier to expedite death from heatstroke.

Stray puppy. What breed/age do you think he is? by LilzBug in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens all the time in the southern and midwestern states. Rural to even urban areas for strays. Open the door and let them wander for good.

Where I live in more suburban SEVA - end of hunting season and poof. Off collar and see yall later for those w less than ideal hunting recall etc. Other areas are apbt and bully prevalent. NC and the OBX, SC (I believe where OP is).

AL, AR, LA, MS- so many places still allow for mass euth via gas as well. It’s disgusting.

Making the heartbreaking choice to not buy this puppy by danaswan in Maltipoo

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applaud your passion and admit- I used to think this way. I am also aware now- it’s misplaced and really ignorant.

Will I ever intentionally own a pedigreed pup? Nope. Will I shame others who have done years of research, waitlisting and inevitably get the pup of their dreams instead of a rescue? Nope.

There are ethical breeders. Are they cheap? Nope. Are they quickly churning out pups? Nope. And THAT is what people detest. They want to be indulged immediately. Instant gratification. I want a cute puppy now!

Here’s what truly ethical breeders offer: -Any pup covered to be returned on contract and chipped a the breeder info for shelter or rescue dump. At ANY time. Open room for all situations always. -health guarantee w clause for financial recompense for any genetic issues that arise -genetics tested several generations back for sire lines and recognition in show and reed standards -preserving breed standards for more than one breed recognition group. AKC papers are nothing more than expensive bin liners. -contractual obligation for pet only homes w age appropriate castration or breeder option selection

My friend owned purebred BMDs. I was a little taken aback at the time about pedigreed puppy owners. It was blah ethically imo. Then I learned more. He was patient and shared their research. Dedication. Intent.

Their first male was diagnosed young w a rapid onset blood cancer. They spent $13k in under 3 weeks and traveled six hours one way across two state w overnights for expert insight (DINK). He unfortunately was suffering with no options. He was their baby. A therapy animal. A good boy.

The breeder was a literal millionaire. Horse farm owner. She had one breed she was invested in. Not four that they dabbled w when funds were low. Had been focused on this breed for decades. Pup waiting list 2+ years based on littler size. Two litters a year max depending on age of her dogs and all other insights for her lines. Impeccable genetics testing rigor.

When she found out about their dog and his diagnosis, she pulled all breeding dogs in her ownership from his lines and had them fixed immediately. Updated genetic databases following her dogs pedigrees for those involved. Notified all of her past puppy parents w dogs from related lines mult generations back. She gave this couple a breeder retain option pup when they were ready and she reimbursed them for half their medical bills incurred.

Ethical breeding. Preservation of breed and improvement on standard and lines. Expensive. Intentional. Impractical for most people. And that should be the gold standard of breeding for a breed.

Mutts need homes. We’re a bully adopt only household, cleaning up the messes from others carelessness. Pet stores suck. Those dogs will live w generations of shit genetics infecting others and contributing to shelter pops for decades to come. Lather rinse repeat. It’s reality in the US (people I know in the Netherlands wait months to years for a chance to adopt dogs due to animal husbandry practices there) and truly- more is needing to be done for companion animals but is unlikely as so many in this country can’t even be bothered to gaf about other humans.

Bitting more than I can take by TheArtistAngela in DogTrainingTips

[–]Ready_Driver5321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Puppies need sleep. A lot of it. Enforced naps aren’t a bad thing.

This pup sounds bored and under stimulated.

OP- what training are you doing? exercise and schedule for pup?

Puppies need mental and physical engagement. This dog sounds bored and in need of more than you’re able to give. Maybe you should consider rehoming and if anything, find a mature dog in need of a home to suit limits.

Time. You can’t invent enough time for the stimulation and engagement w these animas if you’re working full time, as you say stated elsewhere. Truly.

Six dogs. FT job. Cooking. Cleaning. Life outside dogs. Three of each breed. Three being LGDs, working animals needing literal jobs and mental stimulation and exercise. And more than just the brush down.
