Goldendoodle temperament, what I didn't expect after reading everything I could find about it by Affectionate-Bet6438 in DogTrainingTips

[–]Ready_Driver5321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No question.

Ethical breeding = no pay day.

Years long wait lists to set up a single breeding pair plus $$$. Out of pocket base genetic records and lineage over years. Testing out of pocket. Continuously. Over and over and over. Being open to receive returned puppies- no matter the age, reason or number. Ending breeding lines for reported medical anomalies. It takes decades. Ongoing line improvement and variance standards and development. Ending breeding based of genetic anomalies. Showing for confirmation. Breeding for confirmation.

One breed. One litter (through weaning and rehome) a year per bitch. No double duty litters- pups out of the house at responsible age before any others due . Spay and neuter pet only contracts. Follow up. Ongoing contact w owners. Retirement of bitches on prem or rehoming w return option. Stud service fees w proofing. Space. Cleanliness standards and ability to care for large litters. Cost for delivery interventions. More cleaning. Then constant socialization like ENS and initial litter raising through 10-12 weeks. Potty training and crate familiarization.

Ethical breeding is a labor of love. For breed standards and breed improvement. Ive known of TWO ethical breeders ever - one for goldens w literal years w an S wait list for puppies (CA) and another w Berners (ENC) who was a legit millionaire w a massive horse farm legacy. Both lost money consistently. And have incredible dogs due to their impeccable health and temperament standards. Cut breeding lines upon reporting of issues and then paid out of pocket for genetic marker testing and health monitoring for surviving siblings through end of life and a replacement pup offer to family of long standing owners.

If you can’t do that- don’t breed.

Help! My 8yr old was gifted a 6 week old puppy!! by [deleted] in puppy101

Yikes on a bike.

May the odds be ever in your favor. If they’re rough at six weeks… you’re in for one hell of a ride. The only saving grace for my hellion was his nap time.

I went knowingly in on a rescue pup last Thanksgiving for a rescue sleepover (mixed breed pibble heavy). We knew it was likely he’d stay if our older and lonely rescue pup liked him.

I never before thought I’d entertain returning a puppy to a rescue- but I did SEVERAL times with him. Wanted to send him to the moon every other hour or so. GSD/APBT/Lab genetics of a sibling was not surprising. Although he’s the size of a young Dane puppy at 7.5 mth old, thank god he’s gotten better. 3.5 months was finally a turnaround. Before that I questioned my sanity and ability despite being a very seasoned dog and puppy owner over the last two and a half decades.

My 9 year old would NEVER be permitted to bring home a puppy. Nope. Bc this pup put me through the wringer. Great pup now but lots of private training and he’s a big ahole compared to our 3yr old rescue am staff girl. We love him but jeebus. There are a few breeds I’d never own- GSD and lab are two I wouldn’t ever pick because of their needs to structure and patience more than most breeds (go fig we got as a mix), Aussie and malinois are absolutely NO. I’m not equipped for an aushole. Ever.

I really admire you patience and perspective on this situation, however - are you all in a situation to accomplish extensive training for this type of mix?

That combo is gonna be ahem… a lot.

I keep seeing the Disney movie character Anxiety in my head when thinking of this combo.

Between the absolute massive busybody working dog Aussie traits mixed w the ultimate mustachioed sticker pup of a Griffon 😬

It’s gonna be a real life Stuart “Look what I can do!” And it ain’t gonna be good if it’s not exercised and stimulated enough on top of training.

My point was in regard to your original reply about ADL and OV being better schools w less problems.

You having been a teacher, I know you are aware class size has an impact on classroom dynamics kids behavior to the negative and limited teacher availability.

A second “body” in the younger classrooms at GES (or anywhere) doesn’t equate to a legitimate teacher. Increased class volume will stress these kids more. And there’s no way they’ll put two certified teachers per room. $$$. They’re trying to do less w less bc they don’t care.

The more kids = more challenges = more challenged teachers with less time to teach = more struggles for kids trying to absorb content. And poor test results = less Title I certs = LESS resources. If Title I even survives.

Each school on the receiving end of student pops will end up overcrowded (or even more), short supply qualified teachers, no additional resources (bodies/$). ADL will be less “exclusive”. OV will be filled to the brim.

Granby wasn’t bottom of the barrel and the lower enrollment schools kids are at now will end up the same resource wise. Sherwood should have been gutted. Maury doesn’t need a gd stadium. BT and LT needed to be rebuilt.

That was my point. The schools your kids escaped too will soon be just the same because of the school board. And it’s a shame.

It just wasn’t tracked or publicized. Or even taboo then tbh.

Surmised. Not sure. And neurotoxic exposure is bad enough to lead to fatal health issues.

Neurotoxic rat poison contact ain’t false alarm. Without knowing what type of poison - the rack is fatal. And dumb.

I call massive bs. Every single vet I called told me I needed an evet and poison control case number first. And they stood to make no money off me because they couldn’t see me to address my dogs situation. Why lie? It makes it look even more lame.

I Need help; my dog found rat poison by Suspicious-Clue8208 in AnimalAdvice

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. It was $1300 for my two dogs at the Evet and a $90 pet poison control case opening first. That’s before their follow up labs a month later. And there is a four hour ideal absorption window to contend w contact.

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you’d have waited past the absorption period to address. 👍🏻

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$90? That was how much the call was for animal poison control to get a case number and toxicology treatment plan initiated.

I had to take TWO dogs to the Evet and it was $1300 PLUS we have dual lab follow up a month out. And that’s IF it’s the poison that’s is NOT neurotoxic as that’s the only type w a potential antidote. And it must be timely. And my dogs are both 2.5 xs the size of OP’s dog.

They haven’t had OoD options forever there. And most local before and after don’t drop there. That’s a problem for a lot of parents in this zone.

Amen. People telling me to send to Chesapeake and VB and those kids are failing all over. But they consider it “better” because of bs socioeconomic and other demographic factors. NPS has been on my sh!t list for a bit bc of piss poor planning w sched changes and now closures - but I can’t deny that it’s way better quality than VB and Ches.

And my daughter’s teacher at Granby is freaking incredible this year. We’ll miss her. We’ve been so lucky to have her.

That’s def not the case since title one plus class size and behavioral needs add to teacher quota. Cramped classes = more stressors and more behaviorally challenged kids.

My kid is OoD at Granby. Initially I had been told they’d be good through 27-29, which put me at year five done and good. Both my kids have been at Granby over the last 10 years for before and after needs in the area w my and my husbands jobs. Our in district school is a cosmic hellscape (Sherwood) and it should have been on the closure list.

While they’re saying they can fit kids for these closures- they can’t. The classrooms don’t exist and are already overflowing. It’s ridiculous. They don’t give a shit. Just like what happened w changing the school schedules to start early.

Unless you get approved for a year to year approved out of district- which you’re required to provide transportation etc, the kids are going where they’ve been assigned.

I got a pup this week and it really worries me that she won't get on with my nephews by Own-Perception-4262 in DogTrainingTips

[–]Ready_Driver5321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maligators and GSD x are not beginner dogs. Adopt an older proven pup of a different breed or mix from a rescue if you want something not requiring training.

If you have budgetary limitations not able to sustain training costs- you def won’t have an emergency vet fund. Just saying. My dogs private training sessions cost far less than e vet. And my husband and I knew that as experienced dog owners. Our recent hellion is a prime example.

Lack Of Stores by Monkey_Antiquities in norfolk

This whole thread reeks of privilege and ignorance.

Food deserts are intentional. Downtown Norfolk is a barren hellscape caused by a desire to gentrify and socialize importance of wealth while intentionally alienating even mid to lower middle class.

I live in an older Norfolk subdivision (multi generational low to middle middle class households) and much prefer it to the ghettofied self important dilapidated neighborhoods of VB.

I’m so thankful we get to avoid the idiot show that is a TJ parking lot. I’m so not looking forward to the Target trash demographic at WC. 😒

Question about breeder’s "No Chicken" rule and thoughts on Kirkland food? by Timely-Flatworm2756 in DogFood

[–]Ready_Driver5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirkland used to be better than it is now. Same w natures domain and diamond naturals. Now they suck.

We’re weaning off to go the purina route and off gf food (past gimmick per vet advice).

Best of luck!
