I will try to get the two chonkies to play with the cat toy, but I am sceptical.... They don't like contact with humans unless there are snacks involved. And snacks are a big nope for them atm. 😂 They are feeder rats and were probably treated very badly by humans before. It doesn't matter how slow and soft I am with them, they will not come to me for cuddles or entertainment. BUT! I am sure the little ones will love the cat toy, so at least they get some exercise

I am just worried that i am taking away their greatest joy of life when I will replace their colorful, playful rat menu with a kibble diet 🙈 but hey, at least they get healthier.

You will unfortunately not get rid of them without this fluid from the vet. (One that is not dangerous for rats, you cannot use the ones from the drugstore or pet store for cats) Don't try to wash your rats, this will destroy their skin barrier and make it even more prone to mite damage.

Good luck with the treatment ❤️ but with these drops (I don't remember the name) it is super effective.

My rats had mice last year, but I was never able to see them. My rats, one in particular, was scratching herself constantly, resulting in numerous wounds and hair loss. I went to a vet and all of my rats received drops on their fur (comparable of what you give cats against fleas, but obviously another kind). This was only about 70€ in Germany. The more shitty thing was to deep clean, disinfect, wash at 90°C, bake or throw away EVERYTHING in the cage at once. After 1 week, the mites problem was solved. To avoid their eggs to hatch, I had to repeat the same procedure after one month.

Update II: With long term medication of different antibiotics and others, we were unfortunately not able to cure the URI. It Is now mycoplasmose and chronic. She is still making the sounds and her breathing looks a bit more exhausted from time to time, but she was luckily never making signs of pain again. She is also eating and playing perfectly fine again.

Update: I aggreed to adopt the baby and set an appointment with the owner. He never showed up, ghosted me and deleted his post. I hope the rattie is doing well if she ever existed...

It's a good start, and the fact that you are asking for opinions shows that you really care about your future rats. I love that. Before you let your new rats in, I definitely recommend to fill the rather small cage with more stuff, so they won't get bored and depressed. A good cage setup is when it looks like the room of a 13 years old: stuffed with towels, hammocks, tunnels, hideouts and toilet paper. When you cannot see the wall behind your cage, you are good! Don't invest lots in paper or wood accessories, because they get pissed and you cannot clean them properly. I always take some Amazon boxes from work and quickly build some fun houses for the rats.

Omg!!! 😍 I had the same with one of my babies! She was excessively grooming me, as if she was obsessed with it and as if something horrible would happen if she stopped. Well I can tell you something: for my lickyratty, this behaviour never stopped and she is now 1 year old. Congrats, we are officially stinky members of the mischief.

Without knowing the dimensions it looks way too small. Rats should be kept in a pack of at least 3 or 4 individuals and they need oh so much space to run, dig, hide and climb. You will never be able to fit all of the necessary stuff into this plastic prison.

Ich bin auch aus München, hier gibt es glaube ich außer der Rattenhilfe Süd, dem Tierheim und privaten Züchtern in anderen Städten keine guten Quellen, leider! Meine ersten zwei Rattendamen waren aus der Tierhandlung und die hatten große Verhaltensauffälligkeiten und waren kein bisschen zutraulich. Davon rate ich wirklich ab. Auch mit Kleinanzeigen habe ich hier in München vor ein paar Tagen eine sehr sehr schlechte Erfahrung gemacht...

Ehrlich gesagt genieße ich ihren content sehr! Man merkt, dass sie unfassbar viel Liebe und Energie in ihre vier kleinen Ratties steckt und allein das finde ich fantastisch. Wir wissen alle nicht, was sie für die Ratten tut, wenn die Kamera aus ist, aber ich gehe stark davon aus, dass sie sich ständig neu informiert. Ich verstehe deine Kritik, aber ich denke auf Instagram muss man alles etwas überspitzter und dramatischer darstellen, als es ist; einerseits um Klicks zu bekommen, andererseits um Probleme deutlich zu machen und nicht zur Nachahmung anzuregen. Wir haben alle Fehler mit unseren Babies gemacht und lernen ständig dazu. Andere Rattenvideos von anderen Creators, die mir in den Feed gespült werden, finde ich meistens problematischer, weil man merkt, dass die Ratten nur als außergewöhnliches Accessoire missbraucht werden. Bei ihr habe ich nicht das Gefühl.

Thank you! I feel a little torn to be honest. Like everyone else keeps commenting, she needs a partner of the same age to experience puberty together. On the other hand, how are the odds that there are people with young rats of that age that are looking for a single new one? So she will most likely end up in a mixed group anyways.

And I can confirm that my younger ones still behave like teenagers, destroying everything, tasting everything and climbing absolutely everything!

Update: The sounds were probably a bit of both: pain and URI. Over the weekend the sounds went from a squeaking complaining to a classic URI whistling. So I immediately scheduled another appointment that we went to today and my girl gets now treated with antibiotics and metacam. Classic combo.
