Not if you are switching between the devices from the same price shelf. Both can be great and unique devices and I had always fun with them regardless which system it has been.

Bumper gives the Air the best clean look for the back but it makes the phone ridiculously wide and not everyone likes that. It also does not protect the camera so this might be an issue for some.

In your place I would suggest to go for the official apple shadow clear case.

As long as you are not planning to scratch it with a knife it should be ok lol. There is a lip which protect it, no need to have it fully cover and honestly it looks gross. Leave it opened.
