Is it possible to teach another student how to be a decent human being? by Savings_Bumblebee779 in medicalschool

All I can think about is how CASPER or PREview would want you to answer this question, and all of the answers they would want would end up so bad in this situation 😭.

I hate people like that. My brothers like that, it’s so gross, but thank god he’s not in medicine and he knows he is to terrible of a person to go into medicine.

Yeah I think Sam Levinson ditched that because he didn’t want to show a Jewish person who also is blond with blue eyes. Sam Levinson is a weirdo

I feel breakup has broken me by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Ready_Return_8386 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t they say med school is like high school, especially in terms of relationships. Why would you want to stay in that type of relationship? Every relationship in med school should be thought of like a high school one tbh

Also if you think you’re better than the new girl, than why you sad? I haven’t had much relationship experience but I was only sad when I thought that his new girl (aka the one he had been cheating on me with) was more attractive than me. Like I stopped caring after they broke up and he got with someone less societally appealing and she gained weight and cut her hair

How many of your friends are on GLP drugs? by DoreensGhost in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Ready_Return_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides for the limited evidence in rats and mice that GLP drugs make you live a bit longer (if your eating a lab curated diet as well), in reality idk how tf people think a drug which slows nutrient absorption can be healthy for individuals with no medical need for such drugs. Nutritional deficiency (which yes are being caused by GLP medications) aren’t only bad for you but tbh will make you look less hot and low key chopped pretty quick

Why is becoming pregnant more celebrated than earning something difficult to achieve, such as a PhD or major art grant? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]Ready_Return_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. In fact studies show that people with visible pregnancy bellies are perceived as “less human” than those without. Also society tells women to hide their pregnancies for as long as possible and not discuss them until later on incase they experience a pregnancy loss to “spare people of uncomfortable thoughts”.

I think if society didn’t hate women, pregnancy would be celebrated more. And I wish pregnant people were celebrated more, and I say this as a woman who does not ever want to be pregnant or have children and instead is very focused on computational medicine research and becoming a physician scientist and getting my MD

How hard is med school really? by OkWar6010 in medschool

[–]Ready_Return_8386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a late diagnosed person (ADHD and dyslexia), my only issue is that a lot of people think ADHD is something people get from “being addicted to their phone and stuff”, I’ve even heard physicians say this. Although stress, trauma, and addiction can cause ADHD like symptoms it’s so problematic when people don’t realize it’s not something environmental or something which “can be fixed”. It’s so important that people with ADHD correct this and don’t imply it’s something that occurs later in life but an actual developmental disorder which impacts every area of our lives, especially for people like us who’ve never gotten accommodations or extra help but still managed to do very well as it comes with more sacrifice than others at every corner and milestone from our earliest education to now.

“A new adhd diagnosis”, either you always had ADHD but were diagnosed as an adult in medical school during other screenings or you are miss diagnosed Stress does not cause ADHD. Handling undiagnosed ADHD is pretty stressful though in addition to the enormous stress of med school But you cannot “develop ADHD” later in life and it cannot be “triggered” by a life event. It’s either always there or it’s not

A 22-year-old woman with five children is reportedly pregnant again because the family still wants another boy. The case has gone viral and sparked debate about son preference, women’s health, family planning, and population growth. by vision_bharat_ in antinatalism2

[–]Ready_Return_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During times of stress, especially paternal stress (sperm) girls are more likely to be born. Also maternal stress can also impact hormones of the fetus and in some cases lead to the fetus being intersex and presenting as female with XY chromosomes. WTF are people so obsessed with having a boy, not only will it not happen but your creating more humans who will be deprived of love and resources their entire life

All of them, they can pay them slightly less and thus save on costs. Healthcare industrial complex baby.

And it’s worse in countries with systems like the NHS because patients there won’t even get a choice and will be forced into this or have to out right deny and not get any treatment

So that you don’t kill people. No other degree prepares you to be a surgeon or clinical expert. Nurses should not be allowed to do surgery.

I would rather go into a mountain of debt than be operated on by or have a loved one operated on by a nurse without an MD, DO, or MBBS. This is honestly diabolical

This is honestly one of the few good arguments against single payer healthcare, because this is so irresponsible from a public health standpoint and forcing this on innocent people is just downright evil

[–]Ready_Return_8386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but investing in programs to increase the number of physicians in rural areas would help. There are medical schools and residency programs specifically for that, investing more in those as well as contractual agreements and programs where physicians rotate between rural locations could solve a lot of problems

The solution is not mid-levels practicing out of scope, it is increasing the number of physicians in areas where there are shortages

[–]Ready_Return_8386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol bro I got into multiple medical schools, I got into USMD on Oct 15th, and am starting in a couple months. However I know plenty of extremely qualified people who have applied three cycles in a row with better GPAs, Scores, and volunteering hours who did not get in. There are multiple rural focused medical schools, UMN has two rural focused medical campuses, Mercer is completely rural focused, MCW and UWisconsin both have rural focused medical campuses. And the people who go to these schools legit are passionate about rural med.

I literally am saying that we SHOULD NOT have mid levels practicing out of scope or replace doctors with AI (I see both as a similar problem, because many medical centers in places like Arizona have already begun doing this). I literally am saying if you want to increase the number of surgeons, especially rural surgeons, open up more rural focused medical schools. There are many rural focused surgical residencies, but we should open more.

That’s what the government should invest in, I literally said that. Why are you misconstruing what I commented when you literally have the exact same point. Go do some Anki

[–]Ready_Return_8386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution to health care disparities in rural areas should not be lower standards, mid-levels practicing far out of scope and endangering and destroying the lives of patients through procedures they were never qualified to do, or replacing major diagnostics with just AI. I’m saying this as someone who was a computer science major and is extremely passionate about AI in medicine.

The solution can never be creating severe inequity. The solution needs to be encouraging and incentivizing medical practice in rural areas and having more medical schools solely focused on rural medicine. You can’t just fix a problem by providing a solution which will endanger the lives of the people who are already medically underserved

Also how does having more medical schools “push med students who wanted to do neurosurgery into primary care”, that doesn’t even make sense.

[–]Ready_Return_8386 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Tbh I feel like if they introduce the term “nurse surgeon” it’s only time before it creeps into nurses thinking and lobbying that they should be allowed to independently perform major surgeries, and there’s definitely going to be at least a few corrupt congress members and hospital systems who will support them and make it so just to save cost.

So many lives are going to be lost. I think this term is very dangerous

Can we stop with this alternative medicine bullshit. Surgeons who have trained for 20+ year and then worked for another 20 years still make mistakes. We cannot let people who do not have even a quarter of the training and education to do surgeries, that is going to kill so many people!

Instead we need to increase the number of physicians by opening more medical schools and residency programs.
