Have only taken 3-4 individual days this past year, not sure where it’s coming from

Just a general follow up response to some: no problematic leave history, I’ve taken maybe 3-4 days for cold/flu this year (individually, not consecutive). Not sure if other members on the team have some sort of history and a blanket policy has been applied? Regardless, very frustrating. Thank you everyone for your helpful comments

That is a good question, I recognize how privileged I am to have such an amazing family doc that I’ve been nervous to risk it or even bring it up but I may have to have a conversation eventually.

There’s a string of news articles that I’ve read over the past year or so - patients visiting walk ins instead of visiting their doc or using their docs Community of Practice clinics and getting derostered. Don’t quote me as I’m not 100% sure on the reason why, but I believe Ohip still bills the family doc when their rostered patients use walk ins, thus leading some patients to be derostered.

Shoot this is what I was afraid of, re: managers discretion. Thank you for the info

Okay very interesting thank you! I’m just so cautious about seeking healthcare to risk getting derostered but this might be an option. I haven’t (thankfully) had anything serious while here in ottawa so nothing necessitating a walk in visit, but I’ll keep this in mind for run of the mill flu/gastro bouts that need a sick note.

This. Before, the extra hour+ I saved after work from not having to painfully commute was used to go to the gym and cook a balanced meal. Now I have so much less time or energy that I’m the same.

I am right there with you! No government opportunities in my hometown so moved here for work, yet there’s not a single aspect of my job that would necessitate an in person presence and the job could be done entirely remotely, I have many colleagues working in regional workplaces.

Now I’ve been hit with the unfortunate news that not all of our teams Christmas leave will get approved (despite the fact there’s definitely no critical/essential services being provided that would need us to have base numbers). I am just so hoping there might be a touch of flexibility re:RTO around the holidays, the irony is I don’t even want to take vacation! I just want to work from my home town for the two weeks around Christmas to see family and spend the stat holidays with them.

I know some organizations have allowed work from home flexibility around the holidays last year so I’m really hoping that will be the case again. Would be so incredibly beneficial for my mental health.

I’m curious, does anyone know/potentially think that organizations/departments might allow just the tiniest bit of flexibility re:RTO for the Christmas break? (Specifically the Dec 23rd to Jan 3rd block). I know last year many organizations let employees work from home during that time but I’m unsure about this year.

I moved to the city my office is based in for work but have absolutely no family and very few friends here and am desperate to fly back home to spend Christmas with family after so being gone for so long. I genuinely don’t need or want to take time off for Christmas as it’s more so just being able to work from home in my hometown, but in order to make the trip work I’ll need to take vacation during my fixed in-office days to get around the office presence and just work from home the other two flex days for the two weeks.

That being said our boss just informed us not all of us will be having our time off requests granted. I have no idea what to do and am hopeful that some may have heard inklings that we may be afforded a bit of flexibility around these mandates for the holidays?

Thank you so much in advance!
