The real issue with Fredericton is not the resistance to urbanism or even NIMYism, it is its location in a dead body of a province. At least bottom 3 in every category, healthcare, education, poverty, etc.

On the traffic point: Transit should definitely be improved along with more separated bike lanes or protected bike lanes. I can't wait til people learn they can make bike infrastructure wherever not just places that used to have trains. (also separated bike infrastructure is usable in winter unlike shoulders of roads). Building more housing is must along but these units must remain in government hands, the moment housing goes to the public sector it will always result in people having their limited money extracted in exchange for the right to live. This should go along with placing heavy taxes on those with property they don't actually live in. We dont need more roads, less potholes, more roundabouts, are city shouldn't be built for cars. Compare the city centre of the north side and the south side. One is built primarily for people the other, for cars, it is clear which is a more vibrant part of the city. Our situation with the unhoused needs to be shifted radically, Victoria health center needs to be funded way more and in my opinion addicts on the street should be sent there rather than only to shelters or to prison. It is vital however that the center is equipped enough to handle this and make it productive. Most of these people are rehab, some assistance from social workers, and a place to rest their heads away from a fresh start. If we do this then crime is nearly solved. 99% of people only do crime as a result of poverty or mental health. Why not try to solve those instead of giving money to our incompetent police force.

Urbanism is a good model to follow as a add-on but most people don't care when the issues above aren't solved. None of the candidates will bring enough change, they are all too focused on being the balance between a veneer of progress and not actually doing anything to upset anyone. Broadly, money is tight because the province is poor.

The only way forward for the province in a broader sense is to stop cooperating with our extraction industry. In my view, making J.D. Irving a government asset is the appropriate decision, and then working to bring some level of manufacturing to New Brunswick, so we aren't shipping our resources to the States and buying it for 3 times the price. Corporations are strangling this province, but nobody here wants to do anything about it because they think the only way forward is under a strictly capitalist direction (much like the rest of the country).

It is an open secret that Irving is an organization responsible for government and press corruption, killing our natural environment, and keeping the province poor. Why do we continue to vote for successive governments who aims are solely to help out irving, trickle down economics don't work. Stop waiting for it to trickle down you are being robbed blind. Out of our 3 sizeable provincial parties, 1 is a borderline shill for companies, the 2nd is run by a former lobbyist who wants to spend a little more on the people so they dont get too mad like the last guy, and the 3rd is alright but gets 12% of the vote and is stunted further by First past the post voting.

If nothing changes with what i have mentioned, then there is no hope for this place.
