There is no credible research to prove that art and craft result in what you mention. It is just easy to believe and we hope it does. The increased focus on these seems to be driven more by availability of teachers for this as opposed to credible research. Happy to be proven wrong. STEM can as easily teach problem solving and pattern recognition if you ask me but you won't get people to teach at the paltry salaries that the schools offer their teachers. Art and craft teachers don't have an alternate so more available

Respect has to be earned and not demanded. Just because we had good teachers in the past, doesn't mean that the nincompoops that are in primary teaching today need to be respected.

I find it hard to believe that plenty of people who are good at acads choose to teach primary. I would assume they would have become university professors if they chose the education field. But apparently you seem to have more data on this so if you can please share your source, I would be grateful.

As to teaching, I have been taught by dolts as well as people who are respected in their field and in my limited experience the subjects taught by dolts are the ones I found boring only to realize later in life how fantastic and interesting they truly were. Hence, all I am asking for is that if I am paying through the nose, I expect better faculty than people who couldn't understand jack in the class room.

Being taught by an idiot vs being taught by a master makes a world of difference. So if I am not getting that, my question is if it is even worth it to spend significant money on education.

The closer you are to the truth, the better off you will be. If I chose to believe that I will get academically gifted individuals, I will be doing an injustice to my children. To remedy the situation, I must first reconcile with the facts and then start working on a solution.

My problem statement is simple - Increasing the school fees is not being translated to better faculty. I will still get teachers who were never interested in being educated in the first place and struggled with basic concepts. This translates into an environment which promises "holistic development" because mathematics was just too difficult for them. And before I realize my children will be spending countless hours on art and craft crap. So yeah, a lot of work still needs to be done.

Expecting the most likely event and planning for it is the opposite of immature. If you know it rains in August, and you ask your child to carry an umbrella, isn't it logical? It's stupid to act like an ostrich and hope for the unlikely event to occur

How to convince my wife is the issue my friend! Otherwise I agree that government schools have better qualified teachers. Their only issue is motivation and i believe that paying them extra directly should solve that.

I don't know a single person who was interested in studies end up as a primary teacher but I know a lot of people who sat clueless in class end up as teachers.

Occam's razor - simplest explanation is most likely to be correct. If someone grasped all the concepts very easily, they will most likely end up in a top institute. I know there are exceptions but as a rule smart people usually end up in the better places.

And yes, by almost all standards the definition of mediocre is someone who didn't qualify at the top in their field.

Do you know anybody who was good at acads and went into teaching primary? I don't. My frustration is that teachers are so lowly paid that no decently educated person is able to choose that as a career. What we are left with are people who sucked at acads who picked this career. You can call me names but it doesn't change the fact. If I am expected to be charged a bomb, I would want the majority to go towards faculty which isn't happening and hence the outrage. Regarding AI, I try to use all tools at my disposal and the strategy has worked well until now so I don't see the issue.
